My laptop was infected with spyaxe for the past week, only recently the pop up in the system tray has dissapeared so im thinkin it may be gone. Just incase its not, heres a hijackthis log and if someone could get back to me that would be great.
I think ad-aware has an update which finds and deletes spyaxe, but im not 100% convinced it deletes everything to do with spyaxe.

Hi thanks for the help. I recently recieved an update a few days ago for Ad-Aware SE Personal, before this update ad aware was unable to find spyaxe but after i received the update i ran a full system scan and ad aware found spyaxe along with alot of other spy,malware infections so i deleted all of them. I restarted my computer and spyaxe was gone but iam just wondering if its completley removed.
Iam not even sure how i got spyaxe, but its definately the worst infection ive ever had and the most annoying!

Can you do the following Sloan
Let's make sure your clean
If you have SmitRem, can you delete SmitRem.exe and the SmitRem folder
I want to ensure you have the latest updated version
Download SmitRem.exe by Noahdfear (http://\"http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1\") and save the file to your desktop.
Don't run it yet
==Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0 (http://\"http://downloads.stevengould.org/cleanup/CleanUp40.exe\")
Don't run this yet,
==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5 (http://\"http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe\")
When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ (http://\"http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/\")
Can you also do the following
==Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as remjob.bat
Save this file on the desktop
We'll need it later
%systemdrive%
cd C:\WINDOWS\Tasks
attrib -r -s -h B1745CEC960FDABC.job
del B1745CEC960FDABC.job
After the above is done, can you do the following
Save the rest of these instructions to a Notepad file saved to your desktop or Print them out for use in safe mode
Can you now disable SpywareGuards protections, they may, and probably will interfere with any fixes we try, you can reenable this after we have you clean
Double click the SpywareGuard Icon in the system tray by the clock to open it
Under OPTIONS, uncheck everything under General protection options and then SAVE SETTINGS
Exit SpywareBlaster
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm.
==Double click on remjob.bat A window will open and close, this is normal
Manuall navigate too and delete the following folders if found
C:\Documents and Settings\Sloan\Application Data\LOGO32 <-this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Sloan\Application Data\KNOBST~1 <-this folder, I'm not sure of the exact name, but it will start with KNOBST
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Warn part proc one <-this folder
==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer
==Double click on SmitRem.exe to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. Remain in safe mode
==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
*1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido
NOTE: When Ewido is running, don't open any other Windows
When Ewido is done
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.loddmlimymqj.com/P0X7QCer/NVkpI...joXUKDqVJcA.cgi (http://\"http://www.loddmlimymqj.com/P0X7QCer/NVkpI...joXUKDqVJcA.cgi\")
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A102D4FE-0186-4B34-5018-64356CDE7FF3} - C:\DOCUME~1\Sloan\APPLIC~1\LOGO32\Dog Proc.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [metalove] C:\DOCUME~1\Sloan\APPLIC~1\KNOBST~1\Bird 16 Cdrom.exe
After you have ticked the above entry, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
RESTART your computer back to Normal mode
Back in Windows
Can I see the following
1. Post the report you saved earlier with Ewidos
2. Post a new log from Hijackthis
3. Double click on findjobs.bat again and post the contents
4. Post the report from Smitrem located here C:\Smitfiles.txt

Looks good
If everything is running better
We should clear all your restore points to ensure you don't restore any nasties that may be residing in the
restore folders
Go to START>>RUN>>In the open field
type in msconfig
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"
Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer
Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of Turn off system restore
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point
For added protections, I see you have SpywareGuard, if you don't have the other following tool from JavaCools'
You should install this free tool
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
Check for updates every couple of weeks
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
Another great tool
Spybot 1.4 can be downloaded from
HERE (http://\"http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html?part=104443&subj=dlpage&tag=button\")
or HERE (http://\"http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html\")
After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and then download all updates
After update is complete
Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Click the "Search & Destroy" button on the left
"Check for Problems"---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED
RESTART the computer to finish any cleaning process if Red entries were fixed
Do the above after every update
Make sure to keep up all all High Priority updates at Windows Updates
That's important in keeping your system secure
We appear to have your system clear of malware, you should take advantage of this oppurtunity and Install
Service Pack 2
Please see this link to explain what to know to prepare your system for the installation
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx (http://\"http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx\")
Even after you have SP2 installed, make sure to check for High Priorty updates on a regular basis
You can also go back and reenable the protections from SpywareGuard
and hide hidden files and folders again
Stay safe Sloan
