btw - dvd+rw  does not work as this is :
- not endorsed by the DVD forum.
- does not have the ability to copy copyrighted dvd\'s

Not a flame , just facts

Well...yeh it does actually have the ability to copy copyrighted dvds. You can copy just about any dvd if you rip it first with vStrip, smartripper, decess, etc... then back onto the disc. Now as far as writing a dvd that is copyrighted i dont know...but it can copy them. As far as dvdram stay away...far away. I had a friend at work that paid like 300 bucks for one....ekk not so good. You could get a decent Pioneer one though...for all kinds of dvd mastering. But dont expect to pay less than 1300 bucks for one. There is some out now that are cheaper...but there not the kind of quality you would preffer to say you spent your money on. Anyways dvdrw is totally nutz...if you look you will be amazed that buy like 50 dvdrw\'s could cost you more than the 1300 dollar writer. I will stick with 99minute cd\'s until the double data ones hit the shelf. DVDrw....sure....if money is NO object.

To burn with a CDRW drive, you\'re going to have to re-encode that movie.  Now, if you only want to play the movie back on your PC, then you\'d want to convert to Divx.  You can fit about a whole movie if you do it right, on just one cd.  If you want to play the movie back on your regular DVD player (to watch on your TV) then you need to convert it to VCD.  The standard movie will take two CD\'s in VCD format.

how do you actually burn the movie and actually convert it to divx?
can you use nero burn?

Ok I can say this.. If you produce short movies ie. 30secs. to 3 mins. you can fit that on a single cd. I know I\'ve done it. however I use Avid which takes my video and encodes it to dvd and makes all the appropriate files to go along with it. I then just open nero and write it to my cd. No dvd drive involved.

To burn a DVD that will run on any DVD drive, you\'re best bet is a DVD-R drive. In the UK, you can pick them up for £2000. (US $2500). You\'ll then need the latest version of Nero, which can write DVDs. Unfortunately, if you want to do straight copies of DVD movies, you\'ll have some trouble. There is some damn hard to crack copy protection sitting there.

So far as i know, straight DVD copying is impossible. It can be done CD to CD though, with CloneCD, which copies the physical CD instead of the information on it. Which gets round the copy protection. I don\'t think there\'s anything like that available for DVDs though.

direct dvd coping is very hard but there are apps out there that removes the protection from the dvd. They are based on an linux dvd player that was relieced for a short time untill the us courst told them that it was illagle, but by that time the code was out there for poelpe to play with. So if you use one of those apps you could copy a dvd in theory, but we dont break the law here so it would be for personal backup\'s only

check this : http://www.rankyou.com/cpt_transfers/serv/enter_one.php?UGO (http://\"http://www.rankyou.com/cpt_transfers/serv/enter_one.php?UGO\")

Maybe it is fake but I heard rumours that it would be possible.
I don\'t believe it as DVD does need more precise lasers but maybe it is cheaper to build one kind of laser those days.

If anyone has experience that you can burn DVD-r on just a CD-r burner then let us know.

I use a program called VCD Galaxy DVDRip Combo Pack.
I dont remember how I found it. Do a search for it. The newest version is 2.7. I have succesfully made 2 VCD\'s so far..Rush Hour 2 and The Fast and the Furious. This is a time consuming process and you will need a DVD-ROM and at least 7Gigs of HD space (make that 10 Gigs).
Here is a link that shows you the compatibility of a lot of DVD players. I need to buy a new one since my DVD player will only play CDRW\'s!! This would get expensive since one DVD movie will take 2 CDR\'s (2 CDRW\'s in my case).
Good Luck

It is possible to Burn DVD but you need a program call DCSS, a CDRW, and a DVD ROM.  DCSS is very hard to find and it was recently in the news that this guy was getting suied for using it but but he won the case.  Not sure where you can look for it.  I uses to have a copy of DCSS but it was so hard to burn a copy of a DVD it was not worth it.  Plus the DVD disk are about $24 and you can get DVD\'s for the same price.

Hope that helps

You only need to ripp the original DVD movie to your hard disk,

you can use the Smart Ripper thet use the DECSS decrypter

and has an easy interface, its a very small program, if you

don\'t find it, email me an I\'ll send you it.

once you have ripped the dvd movie to your computer, burn

the new dvd from the hard new vob files in the folder where you

ripped the dvd.

MOst Vob files are 1 GB so they will only fit onto a dvd, so a dvd r , dvd rw, dvd+rw, dvd ram or dvd -rw drive is needed to save the files.

You also need to re- create the file system that the original dvd used so that hardware dvd players can read the new disk /wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

It is very simple to crack DVDs, convert them to VCD, author menus, blah blah blah.  If I have a DVDRW and want to crack and copy a DVD in its entirity with menus and extras is this possible?  I know how easy it is to copy the film and extras and create my own menu, but surely there must be a way to skank the whole lot?

Roxio\'s Easy CD Creator Platinum supports DVD-R/DVD-RW. Also Nero\'s latest version will. I think the best one though is WriteDVD. As for copying DVD (eg movies) it can\'t be done unless you know someone who got the crack for cracking the encryption from the net. This can\'t be got anymore so you\'re screwed unless you know someone with it. Anyway the present recorders are complete crap as I have tried a few. The discs retail for around £20 if you\'re still interested.

watch out people there is alot of Ads out there saying that you can buy a software for some $$, which allows you to burn dvds or a regular cd-r,cd-rw drives
what the actuall thing does is it copies the dvd to the hard drive convert it to VCD and it burns it on a regular cd wich becomes a VCD.
a vcd can be played by almost any DVD player out there and can be played on a regular CD rom drive.
Quality is never the same, size of the movie needs at least two regular cds and you can do this your self with out paying for there program, just be smart and search for these kinda software.
well, i said what u guys need to know
you can e-mail me if you have any questions or remarks

Most of those programs are bull.  If there are any programs, they\'re illigal.  At least for now.  I work for the entertainment industry and  yes there is a way to brake the copyright seal.  I haven.t figured it out yet, but I will post it as soon as I get the bugs out. I think when we copy the dvd,  we copy it without the copyright, and insert it after to f--- everyone else.  The technology is still new and I\'m sure all these questions will be answered within a few weeks. ....Either by myself or elsewhere.

you can copy any dvd on to a regular cd, by first ripping the dvd and joining all the parts together on to a regular cd in vcd mode, i have made many copies of rented dvd\'s and play them back on my dvd player, the quality is very close to dvd, the only downside is it takes abot 20 hours to make a dvd, but in my case i just got to work and let my computor do the rest and the next day i have a copy of a dvd, any dvd you want.

Umm this might be a little obvious, but why not just use the optical output of a consumer dvd player into a decent video capture board? You could then save as any format for mastering a new DVD disc with whatever you want.
This would be a 100% digital transfer.

Macrovision protection? If you go out and buy a cheapo Apex DVD player, it can easily be modified to remove any copy protection. They will also play DVD\'s from any region and support VCD, MP3, etc...

Yes,
I have gotten emails about a program that can copy DVD material and put it on CD-Rom.  It actually makes VCD\'s and not DVD\'s if you read the fine print.  I can copy the video, but it doesn\'t maintain the same quality.  The picture will be better than Video, but not like a DVD.  And, the SW cannot copy 5.1 Digital audio, but rather converts it or only copies the Prologic piece.

Like I said, here is my update:

It works, rip all the files from your DVD on hd with smartripper. Then you copy that map with NeoDVD or Nero back to a DVD.

If the DVDmovie is more then 4,7Gb then you cut you rmovie in 2 parts, you fill up 1 DVD with the first vobs, for example 1->4 second DVD from 5->7.

What more do you need??? And you guys needed 4 pages of reply\'s to get this answer, just try and error /tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Good luck and have fun

how u do this: \"You also need to re- create the file system that the original dvd used so that hardware dvd players can read the new disk \"
Title: how to burn dvd
Post by: Anonymous on June 03, 2002, 06:02:01 AM
Its just simple:

Smartripper shows you the whole DVD filesystem...
All the BUP files and stuff.
What did I do??

Rip all the vob files, then you still have the BUP and ifo\'s to do. Rip them after you got your VOB\'s. For some strange resean smartripper can\'t do that simulataneously. After that, you look at the DVD structure and at you r rip structure. All files that are not necessary, throw them out the mapstructure.
Burn it back on DVD and you have an EXACT copy, DeCSS and Macrovision are gone when you rip with smartripper, problem solved, you have a readable backup. Also for you hardware DVD-player!!

For multiple DVD backups of movies, like i tested with \"the mummy\", simple you got for example 3 different VOB list on your DVD, all three with their own BUP and ifo. Rip them all apart in different TS folders. Burn on HD, problem solved, readable on PC and hardware DVD!!

The thing is that this doesn\'t make sense if you do this!! It\'s a lot of work, even when you have one hell of a machine like I have (AMD 2000+ XP with 512 MB 333MHZ DDR, a SONY 16x DVD reader, and a Pioneer burner, all that ripping goes to a IBM 60Gb ATA 133)
2 hours for one movie. I don\'t know then I rather copy a DivX from ViTe or Dominion, or some other quality rip group.

I know its possible now, but I\'m not going to do this in my spare time.
Hope I helped you guys out a bit...

You may consider making a (vcd) video cd that will usually
play in most dvd players.  You\'ll need to rip the dvd to your
hard-drive, then work with it as you would an mpeg file
You may also have to split the file b/c maybe too large for
a regular cdr.

Post by: Anonymous on July 12, 2002, 04:03:59 PM
Yes it is possible to burn dvd to cd-rom.    Highly recommend a
Dual processor 1 Ghz Mac,  300% faster than a pentium 2.1 Ghz machine.
From my experience windows blows at mass multimedia because the
intel processors are vastly inferior to the IBM Risc processor do to
the intels narrow bus.  128 bits bus on mac, vs 32 bit on windows
= more thruput on a smaller clock rate = greater truput cpu effeciency, just like they taught us in our senior computer engineering level courses in college.

Heres how you do it.

1. rip dvd using codecs
2. export resulting MPEG-2 to Quicktime.
3. export that to Titaniam Toast 5.1
4. burn it as a video-cd on a cd-rom.
5. Play it back on a dvd that has video-cd abilities.

This works,  I do it all the time for family movies.
I use the master copy on dvd,  then distribut to
rest of family on cd-rom because cd-rom is
only 14 cents a dist,  dvds are like 8 bucks a disk.

Ok. I dont want to go buy an expensive DVD burner, but I do have a CD-RW drive. I was wondering how I would be able to rip the movie off the DVD in my CD-RW drive, so I can then make a new compilation on Nero and burn to a new disk. If anyone can tell me how to do this the help is much appreciated.

Thanks heaps in advance.

Well for starters your CD Drive wont read DVD\'s  second you would need to use a lot of cd\'s top back a DVD up even if you just ripped the movie off it it can be 4gig +  DVD Burners are getting cheaper and cheaper  even in the UK they are about for £200 and blank DVDs for 60p each.   DVD R discs are what are needed for movies and for standard PC drives  DVD RAM sucks ass in a big way. If you buy a DVD Burner just make sure it burns  DVD-R  and DVD-RW

www.doom9.org is the best place to learn it.

but to be honest if you don\'t have a clue learning .ifo\'s, multiangle\'s, seamless branching, etc... will kill you.

im not saying you can do it...if i can do it anyone can is the way i feel

but it\'s very scruticulous. You have to have ALOT OF PATIENTCE in the begining and even now im working on seamless branching and JACKET_P and im brain fried out.

The aproch you should be looking for is making your own menu\'s atleast to savior some orginality. If you want to be a retarded and replicate in other\'s a current dvd title...well that\'s your lame business. But you should for now is just make your own menu (that will be faster than using the current one if you\'ve never done it), rip just the movie out of whatever angle and audio stream you want, and author that.

real real easier there and to be honest all the chapter point\'s i personally never use so i use the 8min rule. A chapter every 8 minute\'s. i don\'t time it at all.

get yourself a shaware version of something, realdvd, dvdit, something to get the feel.

like im saying, don\'t expect to jump in and do multi-angle\'s, seamless branching, webDVD, motion menu\'s, etc... off that bat...if you do get it that quick you should be doing it for a living.

I hope you don\'t mind me asking you some questions regarding a dvd burner.  I just purchased a Dell computer system that came with a DVD+RW drive.  I also purchased a ripper program that will allow me to rip the dvds onto my hard drive.  I have done that and it works.  But my problem is that I don\'t know how to burn the ripped files from my hard drive onto a dvd+rw.  Do I need a special program to do this?  All of the programs I have that came with my computer which are set up to burn dvds say their not compatible with the file type.  Is there a way to convert the files to a different format?  Anything you know would help greatly.  -Kristin

There is a whole lot of nothing going on in this particular discussion.   Everyone is asking everyone, \"HOW DO I DO THIS\" and everyone is responding, \"YOU CAN DO IT\" or go here, or whatever.  People saying it is possible, it is fun, you can do it, etc, etc, etc.

People saying, hey, just e-mail me and i\'ll send you a .txt file and tell you.

Why can\'t you people that say, \"hey, just e-mail me for instructions...\" just post your instructions on how to do this here?  Would make this much more sweet and less of a multi-branch shop.

Title: how to burn dvd
Post by: mrhex on October 13, 2002, 12:02:49 AM
Hey if you want to throw your computer out the window thats your thing. The simple fact of the matter is that video DVDs are protected by an encryption standard that is incorporated into the hardware specifications of every drive; whether that drive is a stand-alone one or it is a PC DVD drive. The encryption is actually very trivial to break. The encryption scheme was broken back in \'99 on accident when some Linux hackers were trying to make a program that would play DVDs on Linux. While reverse engineering the Xing DVD player they found that the program was not protecting the encryption keys too well. With further cracking of the program they found out how the system worked and developed a way to reverse the encryption and allow someone to rip it to their hard drive. The encryption scheme is known as CSS(Content Scrambling System). The program that was first developed to rip DVDs to the hard drive was called DeCSS. It has been ruled that it supposedly violates the DMCA to pass around or use it. But the interesting thing is that the source code for DeCSS has been ruled legal because it has become so ubiquitous. Thereby there have been many other people that have written second and now there are third generation DVD ripper programs available that do a pretty good job of decrypting the DVD video info and ripping it to your hard drive. If you do plan on copying some of your own DVDs for back-up purposes then I recommend that someone have at least 9 Gigabytes of free space available on your hard drive. The full DVD is gonna be at least 4.7 Gigs by itself. So then you need that plus some temp. space and whatever else your burner is gonna require to effectively burn it. It is actually relatively very easy to do once you know how to do it.  I hate people that whine about not getting simple instructions because they are too lazy to look it up on the Internet for themselves.

your wrong!  yes is the answer to your question. you can burn a movie to your cd-r  depending on the form of movie file you might have to encode it then split it into a few parts to fit on a avg cd-r disk. but i have done it over and over. since then i have gotten a dvd r/w which made my life alot easier. but if you don\'t have a dvd r/w  you can also burn the movies to a cd-r

I have just purchased a Sony Dru 500A and I\'m still trying  something with it. But I notice if I try to copy a dvd that is write protected or use clad to copy it to my hard drive it won\'t allow me to do it. But if I use the VERITAS recordnow software hat came with it, I can do a direct copy dvd to dvd write protected or not and it works, The downside to that is if the  movie is longer than 90 minutes, you will lose some of the footage because it dosen\'t allow you to split the footage.

But with the other software that came with it ( Sonic MyDVD) it does allow you to split the footage or pick what chapters  you you wish to record, providing if you can copy it to the
hard drive if its not write protected. The problem I\'m having
right now is that it will show to preview on the dvd I want to
copy from but when I try to capture it it dosen\'t recognize
either of my dvd rives.

you can also make a dvd using standard cdr blanks and a standard cdrw drive - the only problem is the size of disc - 700 megs will give you about 20-25 mins of dvd but that might well be enough for most home video buffs who just want to transfer their holiday videos etc. I use Ulead Video Studio 6.0 and my cdrw and it makes absolutely perfect dvd on an ordinary cdr with the menus etc.

Ok, Look. I\'ve seen so many people with questions and some with smart ass answers. Escuse my language. I have a JustLink 24x10x40x Compact Disc ReWritable Burner with Nero Burning Rom 5.x and a DVD Drive from a Compaq Computer I use to own and its almost 6 years old. I downloaded Movies from the internet using KaZaA. The Movies were split into 2 parts each about an hour or so long. The funny thing is I was using the compaq which was a 433mgh slow and stupid but it got the job done. I downloaded blade 2 in 2 parts and burned one part to a NORMAL IMATION CD-R 700MB/80MIN COMPACT DISC RECORDABLE. the only downfall that I saw on my DVD player in the front room was my sound stayed tha same and my video sped up. i had a 433MGH when i did it so i wasn\'t expecting much. It played Excellent and the sound was crystal. Pretty close to DVD quality. Earlier during the day of Dec 23, 2002 I was browsing the web and i found some DVD ripping software so I decided to try myself. I ripped an anime DVD which was Protected and I did not run into any problems cept the fact that my video card really sucks. It\'s a SavagePro3 /sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />. :::!!DOWNLOAD KAZAA AT YOUR OWN RISK. www.kazaa.com I didnt tell you too. and ohh yeah if u want the movies to come out good get them from tmp or with a 3letter initial from it. do not get it in AVI format get it in MPEG or WMP format.for best results USE DSL to get em or it could take 3-5 hours for a 30min movie part.As far as Kazaa is concerned stick with Movies Songs and Pix do not download Programs People like to slip Viruses into them.

I will be back Later to Fill you people in.

Not endorsed by forum - yes, this is true.
Not capable of burning copyrighted dvd-roms - no!
There is a program, cdrecord (also known as cdrtools) which in beta version on (IMPORTANT - on ide-scsi will NOT work) scsi dvd burner can write raw dvd image (and even write on restricted sectors)

So you can write copyrighted dvds on dvd+rw - but it\'s little tricky.

Well I bought dvd-cloner anyway, it works great burning dvd\'s to dvd but it only works if you choose not to burn the menus. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, oh by the way the quality, sound dts, dolby digital and 5-1 are great, can\'t tell the difference so all of you out there trying to figure out how to do this and keep getting told you have to compile, compress, sqeeze, convert to mpeg, vcd and so on, it aint that difficult if u have dvd burner and don\'t mind not having the menus which Iam hoping is a way to correct. The program is dvd-cloner and cost 60 bucks, there is another one out there called dvd x copy by 321 studios for 99 dollars it probably copies the menues and everthing, it was codeveloped by the person behind ifoedit. And don\'t bother trying to find a way around the paid registration.

if you have a dvd burner, you can burn a dvd
make a image of youre dvd with a program like nero or prassi
after that burn the image in youre dvd burner
But mostly its nesseserry to rip first and than split the session
before you can make youre own dvd, because there is not enough space to burn it on one dvd rom.
Note:its possible on bigger dvds(more space)
ore you can make the bitrange smaller,to make it fits.

Hi,

I was just wondering if you figured out how to copy the DVD\'s?  I just bought a Toshiba SD5002 DVD RW and I have DVDR Media and I can\'t figure out how to burn dvd movies onto them.  Do you need additional software?   I am using Instant cd/dvd 6.5 and I can\'t seem to do it.

Thanks,  Ed  (cobrakai34Email Removed)

Any help would be much appreciated.

The only software that I have come accross is DVD Xcopy.  It allows you to create \"backups\" of your original DVD movies and create exact copies of the original on a DVD-R.  The software runs about $100 but is well worth it.  It is very easy and straight forward to use.

DVD XCopy can be purchase online at http://www.dvdxcopy.com/ (http://\"http://www.dvdxcopy.com/\").  Keep in mind that most movies will take up two discs if you want all of the special features included.  If you want only the movie, it will usually fit on one disc.  Remember, a commercial DVD has double the capacity of the blank DVD-R/DVD-RW we can purchase because they are double layered (that is why two discs are sometime necessary to backup what they have on one).  It usually takes me an hour or so to burn a movie and have yet to be dissapointed with the quality.  Well worth the money, I highly recommend it.

Look dudes, You can not copy a DVD movie that is copy right with a DVDR or RW unless u bypass copyright.  There is a program called DVDXCOPY.  Is not free, so you'll have to buy it.  U might find it in Kazaa or Morphues, but is not legal to own a unpurchesed or copy title.  So do at ur own risk.

DCESS can copy DVDs that are protected because a fifthteen your old boy from Europe learned that the early DVD's had encryptsion, but the key was a 5 digit number which was not encrypted. He realized that all the keys were 5 digits and created a program that cracks this key and allows you to RIP (Take information off a DVD and put it on your computer) DVDs. Now, once you RIP a DVD with a program like this, you can then use any program like NERO to copy the contents of the folder where you put the DVD information and copy it to a blank DVD, thus not having the encrypted part of the DVD go onto the new DVD. Be warned though, 2600 people from the west coast are in the process of being sued for putting up mirror sites for having links to this program or explaining how it is done. (http://www.rhythm.cx/dvd/) (http://\"http://www.rhythm.cx/dvd/\") This website actually scanned the letter sent to them and put it up on his webpage. As far as I am concerned, when you get spam on your E-mail, reply with the guy who wrote the letter to the website owner's E-mail and let him get spammed for taking down his website.

Sorry, got off the subject. DVD X Copy is a new program which will make a copy of ANY DVD, including Playstation 2 games, or so they advertise. Haven't tried it yet but they have a trial version for 14 days and there are not cracks out for it yet to really experiment with the program, but garentee there will be soon enough. The only bad part of this program which might help the program stay legal from the Hollywood suers is that it will not make a copy from a copy. You need to have the origional to copy it because the copied DVD gets its own encryption from the program making the program recognize it, thus proventing future copying. But if you have the origional DVD you can copy it onto as many DVDs as you like. Note that Blockbuster and Hollywood Video has only origionals and are not smart enough to make copies for the public to prevent copying of their DVDs.

Hollywood was follish to believe no one would crack the DVDs only because most DVD copiers will trick the protection into believing it is PLAYING the DVD instead of copying and allowing the program to obtain the key that way.

I hope this was a help to you but all this information is out there on the internet, just most people I know don't like to read it and learn because it is time consuming and time is important. I read though so I will put my input in whenever I can to help others obtain what they need.

[quote name=\'Anonymous\' date=\'Dec 10 2001, 08:52 AM\']To burn a DVD that will run on any DVD drive, you're best bet is a DVD-R drive. In the UK, you can pick them up for £2000. (US 00). You'll then need the latest version of Nero, which can write DVDs. Unfortunately, if you want to do straight copies of DVD movies, you'll have some trouble. There is some damn hard to crack copy protection sitting there.

So far as i know, straight DVD copying is impossible. It can be done CD to CD though, with CloneCD, which copies the physical CD instead of the information on it. Which gets round the copy protection. I don't think there's anything like that available for DVDs though.

OK here is the senario:

I have a DVDRAM recorder hooked up to my home entertainment system. I have easily burned about 40 movies. Now the question is, can I bring those DVDRAM disks into my office and reproduce them onto DVDR? Can I buy a DVDROM drive that reads RAMs? Then buy a DVDR/RW recorder that will write to Rs? Put both drives in the same PC and reproduce my DVDRAMs which do not have copy protection after I make them, down to DVDR which almost all DVD players will play.

Let me know if you have done this or have any ideas.

I am having a problem burning DVD to DVD with my new Sony DW-U14A burner. I am using DVDXCopy. During the read (rip) I am encountering errors at about the same point every time. The error usually occurs about 15 mins into the read while I'm on the VTS_01_2.VOB file. I have a feeling it is something about my system that's causing it, or something I'm not setting correctly in the software. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

absolute easiest way to copy any dvd is

rip the dvd to your HD using DVD Decrypter (it removes copy protection) /ohmy.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':o\' />
then use  DVD2ONE it shrinks size from 8gigs down to 4.4gigs(everything all menus & extras) /wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

then just burn with Nero 6 Ultra /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Hope this helps someone /cool.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'B)\' />

You are all doing it the hard way.  There is a freeware program available now for backing up your DVD's.  It's called shrinkdvd.

A normal dvd that you buy at blockbuster has 2 layers of data on it (9.4 Gig).  A blank dvd+r or dvd-r has only one layer (4.7 Gig).  So you either need to pull some of the data out of the burn (menu's, extra audio channels, subtitles, deleted scenes....) or you need to split it over 2 discs, or... you can recompress it to make everything fit on one disc instead of 2.

Some movies will fit on 1 disc if you burn the movie only.  Others will fit menu's, movie, features, everything on just one disc (not many, but I have seen a good many in my collection).  But most of the time if you want to make a copy of the whole thing with features, menu's and everthing you will want to recompress.

This program does a very good job of recompressing the move and can do it in as little as 20 minutes.  A single pass will take about 20 minutes.  A 2 pass analysis will take about an hour or so but with considerably better quality.

Just for the record... I have a 9 foot screen with an LCD projector and yes I can see a small difference when I recompress, but that is on a 9 FOOT SCREEN!!! (Of course I know what to look for.  The average user will notice that the copy will be no different from the original unless you are using a HDTV of considerable size...... On my 36 inch TV it looks the same as original.

Even if you watch on a 9 foot screen,  the recompress is great quality... very close to the original disc.

You can also choose to rip just the movie and not the features with this program.  This way you may not need to recompress.  If the movie alone is too big to fit the application will recompress it just a little so that it will fit.  (It really is a cool program.)

I have DVDXCOPY Platinum and Express, and Smartripper and DVD-Decrypter and DVD-Fab.  I spent more that my share on these items and I still choose ShrinkDVD for all of my latest backups.

Anyway,  you can download shrinkdvd from doom9 or just search google for it.

Hey It's free!!!  And works great.

Oh yeah, you still need a program to burn the files that it produces (nero, easy-cd, whatever will let you burn dvd-video discs.....your burner probably came with what you will need.

Listen up everyone that wants to make back-ups of their dvds, or for anyone who wants to rent dvds and then burn them (let's cut the [censored])
USE DVD SHRINK!!
It's a freeware program that makes any dvd (including dual layer discs) fit on 1 (one) 4.7 Gig DVD-+R
Trust me, I was looking around for a while to find out how to do this, and I have found that this is the absolute easiest way.
Do a search for "dvd shrink", download it, read the instructions, and you will be more then pleased with how easy it is to do.

Once again in case anyone missed it, DVD SHRINK

I dont know how I came up on this topic but let me answer your prayers people. First of all your never going to get the quality of a dvd using SVCD, VCD or anything, and no you just cant burn dvds like you do with regular cds. If you dont have a dvd drive on your computer then theres no way you can burn dvds. You can however download .avi(divx, xvid) files on the internet(BitTorrent)and burn them on CD-R Disc(most .avi files are less then 700 mb)using Nero and burning it as a Data disc. Go to Wal-Mart and buy a dvd player which supports DivX files and it will play them easily and with great quality.

Now for people who want to make back up copies of dvds I'll tell you an easy way and the file will come out to be only 700 mb to be able to put it on a CD-R Disc. First you need to rip the DVD(decrypt it)and you can do this with a program called DVD Decrypter(its free). After that just get a free program called "AutoGK" and it will tell you step by step(which all you have to do is 3 easy steps that a child can do)with pictures how to encode this movie into a 700 mb Divx or XviD file. Then just use Nero or any other program to burn this as a Data Disc and you can play it on a standalone dvd player which supports DivX(they only cost 69.99).

You can also download mainly anything for free using BitTorrent, other p2p programs like Kazza, Imesh,Limewere suck and have spyware and many many viruses.

Heres the link for AutoGK  http://www.autogk.net/ (http://\"http://www.autogk.net/\")
and dvd decrypter here  http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ (http://\"http://www.dvddecrypter.com/\")

I have recently bought a new digital video camera and I am wondering if anyone has a clue as to how to burn my home vids to a DVD that can be used with my DVD player.  It's an older player so it does not recognize any format other than what can be played from video DVD (movies).  I have a Dell system with a DVD+RW drive and software that came with my camera.  Any information would be helpful, and please no high tech laguage, as I am fairly clueless about this stuff.

Thanks!!  /blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

YOU CAN USE THE PROGRAM "1CLICK DVD COPY" IT IS THE BEST DVD COPYING SOFTWARE I EVER TRYED (AND I HAVE TRYED ALOT) JUST USE THE SMALL PROGRAM "DVD43" IN THE BACKGROUND IT TAKES OF ALL COPYRIGHT LOCKS. THEN YOU CAN USE 1CLICK DVD COPY TO COPY FROM DVD-ROM TO DVD-BURNER OR TO HDD

I am having problems with DVD Shrink.  I have version 3.2, just so you know.  I can get it to work fine until I try to use the Backup! feature.  It starts to backup the disc, but about 10 seconds in I get an error, or the program just shuts itself down.  I really need help on this one.

I bought a dvd player off ebay. It is a sony DVP NC-615. The info for it is rigth here, nice and simple

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DV...&Search=Search& (http://\"http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1252&Search=Search&\")

I burned a quicktime video on a DVD+R disc and a series of windows media files on another. Neither of them worked. I was wondering if anyone can help me out.

The quicktime file was the movie Rushmore and in the title it says "Rushmore.xl.3ivx" and then the window media files where episodes of arrested development. I used properties and it said the video compression was XVID. I torrented both of 'em. Some one help me out please.

The dvd player plays region 1 discs and I was looking for a hack it and make it multiregional. I have seen a method which involves a certain type of remote, I was just wondering where I can get it? Its called One4all remote or something like that. I live in Canada and I was wondering where I can find it. /blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Any help would be good help. Thanks

I have copied over 100 movies using DVD XCopy paltinum and also using DVD DeCrypter and Clone DVD2. I ran into a Movie that I am having alot of trouble trying to copy..DVD DeCrypter tells me "POSSIBLE STRUCTURAL PROTECTION"...and it will only go so far before giving me an "Encrypted data" error....I tried XCopy Platinum, and I get the same thing...(Only it says"Unreadable Data")...Is there a way around this?

[quote name=\'josetann\' date=\'Dec 4 2001, 03:03 PM\']To burn with a CDRW drive, you're going to have to re-encode that movie.  Now, if you only want to play the movie back on your PC, then you'd want to convert to Divx.  You can fit about a whole movie if you do it right, on just one cd.  If you want to play the movie back on your regular DVD player (to watch on your TV) then you need to convert it to VCD.  The standard movie will take two CD's in VCD format.

ok here is a question for u all...
I have movies on vhs that i would like to up date to dvd..
I had bought a dvd burner thinking that I could just copy it to dvd...
When i tried it.. it said copywrite protected.. damn crap... aint like I'm selling the damn thing just tring to get rid of tapes... !@#$%^
anyway i beilieve that I need to hook up something to the vcr that would take the copywrite protection off... except I have no idea what that is... now here's the other question... could you record a dvd to vhs then back to dvd... I know it would kill the quality.. but atleast you could maybe get past the protection crap.?... I've only suggesfully burned one Dvd from dvd... and it was the philadelphia experiment... it had no copywrite on it... so it was a perfect copy... yahoo... and one cd... that i only burned 5 songs on... I have a dvd burner and cd burner... not purchaced in that order... that would have been dumb... i have since gotten rid of the vhs/dvd burner that costed to much anyway and didn't help me... ah nuts.. hey to anyone that helps me succesfully do this I'd be willing to share my collection for the price of the planks and shipping charges... /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />)

So, basically, if I don't have enough free memory on my harddrive, I'm screwed? My computer was a freebie, so I was given only the bare necessities. CD-Rom, 4 Gig hard drive, etc. I've added  DVD-Rom and  DVD-RW drives to my computer, since. But, I don't have the memory to rip a dvd to my hard drive before burning it onto a DVD-R or DVD-RW.. Is there no program that can remove the copyright protection as it burns from one drive to another? I also read something about Apex DVD players can be modified to remove copyright protection. Is that referring to an Apex DVD Rom, or a regular DVD player? Any info would be of great assistance.

Thanks

try dvdshrink. it allows you to:

a)decrypt copy protected dvd's
b)change reigon codes to be evn reigon free
c)burn dual-layer movies onto single layer discs via compression
d)re-author the dvd i.e. cutting out what you don't want

it rocks!!! http://www.dvdshrink.org (http://\"http://www.dvdshrink.org\")
