Hi there
You have helped me in the past but now another problem........
Ewido detects a ZLOB virus or spyware thing. It CLEANS it but it keeps returning and my computer crashes.
Can be very annoying when downloading things.....some get totally wiped.
Here is a Hijack log:

Let's get a closer look please
Download SmitRem.exe by Noahdfear (http://\"http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1\") and save the file to your desktop.
Don't run it yet
Open Ewido
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ (http://\"http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/\")
Save the rest of these instructions to a Notepad file saved to your desktop or Print them out for use in safe mode
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu
==Double click on SmitRem.exe to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. Remain in safe mode
==Open Ewido anti-malware
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
*1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido
Reboot back to Normal mode
1. Post back a fresh hijackthis log
2. Post the whole contents of the Ewido report
3. 3. Post the Whole log made from SmitRem located here C:\Smitfiles.txt
NOTE: You will have to reset your background in Display properties
XP users using the XP theme may experience a change to the Classic Windows theme. This can be changed on the themes tab of desktop properties.
Do you still have SpySweeper installed?
Is it a full registered version capable of updating?

Here is the log from SmitRem:
Cant find it in C:Smitfiles.txt anywhere! I ran it as stated.
What do I do?
Thanks
Liz
-
Open "MyComputer"
Double click to open Local Disk C:
you should find Smitfiles.txt in the C: folder
-
Yep!
Thats where i Looked. Not there.
I only ran "run this bat" and i ticked box saying c'onfirm over write'.
I also did a search and nothing comes up.
Now when i re-run the program, a message says;
"Confirm over write of files cmd?" yes
"Confirm over write of files getsts.exe?" yes
" Confirm over write of files Process.exe?" yes
" Confirm over write of pv.exe?" yes
"Confirm over write of replace.cmd?" yes
"Confirm over write of Runthis.bat?" yes
"Confirm over write of swreg.exe?" yes
Final message: "All files have been extracted"
Hope this helps.....
Thanks

That doesn't help at all
All you did was extract the files, but never actually ran the fix
When you extracted those files, a Folder should be placed on your desktop called
SmitRem
What I need you to do is open the SmitRem folder
Double click on Runthis.bat to run the fix
Did you print out the instructions before going to safe mode, or save them too a text file for reference???
A needed file for Windows may be infected
I need you too actually run the fix!!!!!!
Please do the following
Reboot into safe mode
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
Return to Normal mode
The log should definitely be found then in this location
C:\Smitfiles.txt
-
AHH!!!
Finally found the folder....it did not appear in safe mode on the desktop.
Anyway, I ran it and have the Smitfiles.txt;

How's everything running?
Do you have WinMx installed???
It appears you downloaded a special hosts file
Let me know please
Also, do you have a working version of SpySweeper installed still?
Or is it the trial version
-
Everything seems better.
I had Winmx installed but got rid of it..........I kept the patch jsut in case I decide to reinstall it.
I deleted spysweepere because I didn't have the correct code and I couldn't update it.
Do I have to delete more?
Thanks so much
Liz xx
-
You can remove the effects of the hosts file until you decide whether when/if you are going to reinstall WinMx
At which time, you may want to look for an updated patch if available
==Download Hoster.zip (http://\"http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip\") and save it to your Desktop.
UNZIP the contents to your desktop or folder
Locate the Hoster folder , open it and double click on Hoster.exe
Click on Restore Original Hosts
In the confirmation window, click on OK.
Do one more Scan with Hijackthis, with all other windows closed FIX CHECKED this entry related to SpySweeper
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WRLogonNTF.dll
*If everything is running better
Final Cleanup
We should clear all your restore points to ensure you don't restore any nasties that may be sitting idleGo to START>>RUN>>In the open field
Type in
msconfig
Click OK
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"
Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer
Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of "Turn off system restore"
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point

*Install SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\") *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
Check for updates every couple of weeks
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
*Keep up to date on Windows updates
You are way behind on your security updates
This is the most important part to keeping your system secure
I would take this oppurtunity and update to Service pack 2
We've partly prepared your computer for this installation
Please take a look at this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx (http://\"http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx\")
On that page take note of the following link
What to know before you download and install
Before updating to SP2 I also recommend you run a Disk CleanUp beforehand and additionally do a Disk Defragment
After you have updated, make sure to keep up to date on All HIGH PRIORITY updates
Allow Windows to set you to AutoUpdate or manually check Windows Updates on a regular basis
*Make sure your Anti-Virus software is always kept up to date and actively running in the background
*A Firewall is very important in the protection of your computer
Windows Service pack 2 contains an adequate firewall protection
If you would like to consider a firewall with more controlled protection
Install one of the following, all have a free version
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall (http://\"http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm\")
Zone Alarm by Zonelabs (http://\"http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp\")
OutPost by Agnitum (http://\"http://www.agnitum.com/products/\")
Sygate Personal Firewall (http://\"http://www.snapfiles.com/get/sygatefw.html\")
It's important to only use one Software firewall protection, this includes the one supplied with XP
More than one can cause a conflict
Take note: SP2 enables the firewall by default
SP1>>The Firewall is disabled, which means that you are unprotected
*Check for updates with your anti-spyware programs and run a scan on a regular basis
You appear to be running Spybot, is it the latest version>>Spybot 1.4
If your running an older version uninstall it from add/remove programs
Install Spybot 1.4 from HERE (http://\"http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html?part=104443&subj=dlpage&tag=button\")
or HERE (http://\"http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html\")
Regardless, if you do have Spybot 1.4, ensure it is update
Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Please Immunize after every update
You may choose to run an updated scan also
You may opt to hold onto Ewido
Ewido will become a Limited version in a couple weeks
It's still a very good scanner to update and run once a month
Stay safe

Hi again
My computer keeps crashing with the error message:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020606-04.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\MRSSKE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml
This morning it kept doing it when I was converting a file. Then it did it again when i was copying a dvd,
Any ideas?
