Title: Windows updates stops at Checking for latest Windows update version

I ran the Windows Updates by launching it thru the Window updates version. First it gave me an information bar that I needed to install the latest version of ACTIVE X. I replied to install it. Then I rebooted,relaunched the Windows updates and the screen stops at "Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website…"
I hear a double click sound and then nothing happens.  

Just prior to this I downloaded the Windows Defender - Beta 2 and then it went to get the latest updates and I received a pop up in the lower right corner " Windows DEfender was unable to complete the update 0x80004002, no such interface supported.

I am worried now that I cannot obtain Windows updates anymore.

Not sure if this will work, but can you try it please
Save these instructions too a text file then close down all browsers, including this one

Go to START>>RUN>>Type in, or copy and paste the following hitting OK after each command

net.exe stop wuauserv
regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Afterwards go back to Windows updates

This fix had worked. I can now search and download the updates.
