Title: need help on making a working winxp bootcd
Post by: Anonymous on December 10, 2001, 05:38:49 AM
hi,

i\'m having problem making bootable backup winxp cd.. i tried twice, but have no luck..

1st try:
using winoncd 5

selecting the xpboot.bin in the boot cd dialog, set the sector to load to 4(for the boot option), and dragging all the cd content into winoncd, then burn the cd in dao mode..

the error i got for this one is \'ntldr not found\'

2nd try:
using winiso 5.3 and nero 5.5.5.1
i first create an iso in winsio and add the boot.bin into the iso to make a bootable cd.  i then use the \'burn image\' option from nero to burn the iso in dao mode.

the error i got for this cd is \'load error: 4\'.

can someone suggest me what i did wrong?

what\'s the difference if i burn the cd in tao mode instead of the dao mode?

Forget about using WinonCD. Get something like WinISO, you can use it to extract the boot record, drop and drag the files you want into the image, add the boot record and save as blahblahblah.iso. There are some other ISO programs that will do this too, but this one seems to be the easiest so far. I was going in the same direction as you until I discovered WinISO, because all of the help forums said to use Winon or some other burning software, but those just take much longer to put everything together. If you decide to go with WinISO, just make sure to name the image exactly as it is on the original.

The procedure for a bootable WinXP cd is the same as for Windows 2000. You can locate the article here
