Title: Building from Scratch

I'm in the process of building a new computer, and while looking at it, I'm not sure about something.

Does a Athlon 64 X2 require a special type of WinXP? I remember hearing about it with the new 64 bit processors, but I don't recall. Maybe I should hold of a while until Vista is available.

Planned Specs:
Seasonic 500-watt Power supply
AMD Athlon X2 4400+ - 2.2GHZ dual core
Abit AN8 32X nVidia socket 939
ATI Radion x1600 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
1 GB DDR RAM




Haven't decided on what hard drives to get yet....hopefully SATA. Also possible I might drop to the 3800+ AMD because it's way cheaper, and I can upgrade later. Mouse/Keyboards etc. will probably be reused.

If you have any recommendations for this, that'd be great.

May I offer you this suggestion. The "Seagate Barracuda" is a great choice. Very quiet and priced nicely compared to the other brands. On "NewEgg" they have a sale on one of the "Barracuda's". I suggest you take a look

To answer your question. You do not need a 64bit operating system if you're running a 64bit processor.
