Hi
I run an ewido(anti mal ware) scan every week and i can't beleive what i saw today. I saw some weird name while the scan was going on and checked later... i looked inside the "my download files" folder and guess what i found...yes some more of these things. I didn't open any of these files but i'm guessing they are porn. I don't know how they got in.
They were in the D:\WINDOWS\Download\My Download Files and these are MPG files and are hidden files. I don't know wether there are more files like this hidden some where else
/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
SO should i just delete these types of files manually? and how can i find wether there are more of this kind?
/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

That didn't show nothing
What are the size of the mpg files?
Right click on then and left click properties
Is Ewido still finding some bad files?
Can you update Ewido and run a scan, when the scan is complete
save a report to your desktop then copy and paste the contents back here
-
MPG files are like 624KB,682KB,669KB,734KB,776KB and etc sized.
And i noticed there are windows media files also which are 345KB,348KB etc. and yep they are PORN (Why did it have to be my computer
/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' /> )
No ewido didn't find any bad files..only some tracking cookies. I just noticed the names while i was running the scan(on the path field).

Can you do the following
Download and save WinPFind.zip (http://\"http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/oldtimer/WinPFind.zip\")
UNZIP the contents to your desktop
Don't run it yet
RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter
In safe mode
Open the WinPFind folder you extracted to desktop
Double click on WinPFind.exe
Click START SCAN
Let this finish, a log will open so you will know it's done
Close out after
Reboot back to Normal mode
Post the results of the WindPFind.txt located in the WinPFind folder
Could you also
Go to either of these links
http://virusscan.jotti.org/ (http://\"http://virusscan.jotti.org/\")
or
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html (http://\"http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html\")
Use the browse button and navigate to one of the mpg files you know you didn't download
Right click on the file and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please
And i noticed there are windows media files also which are 345KB,348KB etc. and yep they are PORN (Why did it have to be my computer
I think we talked about not having the latest Security patches from windows updates
This could be far worse, I hope you regularly make backups
Without a legal version of Xp and no security updates, one day, your going to need those backups!

No harm deleting the .mpg files
If you don't remember downloading the files
Do you have other users on your computer that could of downloaded them with a Filesharing program
such as Limewire?
Is this a folder you made yourself?
D:\WINDOWS\Download\My Download Files
Where do your filesharing programs save their downloaded files too?
-
I had limewire earlier and had it on only for a about 2 or 3 weeks as it gave me some trouble with the computer (got a worm from it...and i downloaded songs only from it) and had it uninstalled. I had a folder called copy of limewire to save the files i downloaded from there. I didn't make the "My downloaded files" folder. Don't have any other filesharing programs downloaded anymore. My cousin sometimes uses my computer (but i don't think he would of downloaded them lol)
And btw i ran a scan again after updating ewido (This is the first time i had updated it since i got it) and it caught some stuff...and the first one seems to be high rated...i deleted it.

You cleaned a couple cookies and the first one was a backup made by Hijackthis
It was harmless in its state
No harm deleting it however
