Post by: Josetann on May 29, 2006, 07:27:58 PM: Some can, some can't. I got a request the other day to ban an ip, but it was an aol proxy ip...banning one of those will ban a LOT of people. I did so anyways, at least temporarily, so hopefully the troublemaker will give up and not come back before I lift the ip ban.

If the user has a static ip, then it's no problem to ban them (of course, they can sign on from somewhere else such as work, etc.). If they have a dynamic ip, then I can ban the entire ip range, which would basically ban anyone else who uses the same ip in the same area. Banning an aol proxy ip can be even worse, as many many people may use that same ip (think of it as a regular
proxy).

Just to give you an idea, here's a list of everything on my ban screen. Note that some of the ip addresses are basically duplicated, with a * at the end instead of a number (the * means any number at the end, so sometime in the future I'll remove the * ban but leave the specific ip, in case it was a static ip). Some of these people were scammer wannabes, some were spammers.

im not sure that was a very clever thing to say, an anti-scammer should NEVER have scammed as a requirement, let alone an elite. You may have just compromised your position, i dont think i'd feel safe using you for anything knowing that.
