Title: help: dual boot blunder!
Post by: sirgawain123 on January 15, 2002, 01:57:32 PM
I had a running dualboot installation: 98SE (C:) and XPPro(E:) with initial boot msg (NOT third party) for selecting S.O.

step 1.I installed NSW2002 on 98SE, run SpeedDisK, and on booting, if i selected 98SE, got weird msg about disk error. If I select XP, XP boots ok.

step 2.So i booted from Win98CD, sys c:
Then i boot straight into 98. bootmenu no longer appears.
step 3 Boot from XP CD, go to recovery console, fixboot DISK1, and now am again stuck with symptoms as step 1.

I could go on cycling through 1 to 3 forever.

My diagnosis: Bootsect.dos is not valid.
I need a tool for copying valid 98SE HD bootsector into a file while being at step 2,then go to step 3, and rename that file as c:bootsect.dos. Then everything SHOULD be OK.

But I dont know how to get a copy of the 98 HD bootsector.

Please help me with a tool/procedure to make it.
TIA n best regards

in case it adds:
c: is fat32
e: is NTFS (is read as c: when  XP booted)
