Title: sysprotect on my computer

Hello,

I have sysprotect on my computer.  It keeps causing Internet Explorer to open with a window which is trying to get me to install software.  I've tried several things to get rid of this (Ewido, AdAware SE, SmithFraudFix, CleanUp!), but no success yet.  I need help.

The website address that keeps popping up is the following address.

Can you do the following please

I need you too disable Windows Defender realtime protections so they won't interfere with any fixes we try

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.


Afterwards,
Download the latest version of Look2Me-Remover.exe (http://\"http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=7\") by Atribune
and save it to your desktop

* Close all windows before continuing.
      * Double-click Look2Me-Remover.exe to run it.
      * Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
      * You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Remover will close and re-open in 1 minute. Click OK
      * When Look2Me-Remover re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
      * Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
      * You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
      * When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Remover will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
      * Your computer will then shutdown.
      * After it has completed the shutdown>>Turn your computer back on.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

Can you do the following please
Ensure Windows Defenders realtime protections are disabled

==Download and install Windows CleanUp! 4.5.1 (http://\"http://www.stevengould.org/downloads/cleanup/CleanUp451.exe\")
Don't run this yet
NOTE: We are going to use this to cleanup your temp folders, prefetch, etc...
CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

Download the latest version of ewido anti-spyware from [color=\"#3333FF\"]HERE[/color] (http://\"http://www.ewido.net/en/download/\") and save that file to your desktop.
[color=\"#33CC00\"]This is a 30 day trial of the program[/color]

• Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
• Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
• On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  
• Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  
  
• Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  
• Under "Reports"
  
• Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  
• Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
  
  Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  

Please save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference
or Print them out!

Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

In safe mode

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
CleanUp, may prompt to run in Demo mode the first time ran, decline, we actually want to run the cleanup portion
If you do first run in demo mode, ensure to rescan again in Clean Mode
When it's done>>Click Close
DECLINE to Log off or Restart the computer

[color=\"#FF0000\"]IMPORTANT:[/color] Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:

• Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
• Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  
• ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.

Once the scan is complete do the following:

• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  
• Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  
• Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  
• Close ewido.

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

That looks good, but now your controlling entries from running on startup with msconfig

Why would you disable your AV from running on startup?

The antivirus is almost never disabled; only when I'm installing new programs or scanning with another program because it interferes sometimes.

I suspect that we have gotten rid of the sysprotect problem and some others obviously.  I haven't really had a chance to make sure that things look normal on the other user accounts.  These problems has been worse on the other user accounts than they have on mine.  I have separate user accounts for the rest of my family.  I think that most of the problems have happened while my son was logged on.  My main problem is that I don't use our home PC all that often... too busy with other stuff.  When I tried to use this computer last week for a quick internet search, I found out that there were a lot of problems.

Another problem is that my Norton Antivirus Live Update is expired so I'm trying to decide if I want to renew or go with a different AV software.  I've been researching other antivirus and spyware software; leaning towards Kapersky or BitDefender.  I was using Microsoft Antispyware to guard against new spyware, but I hated how much it slowed things down.  Ewido and Platinum Internet Security look like they're rated good for detection of spyware.  With most of the stuff I've read, it seems like there are completely opposing opinions on how these programs stack up against one another.

I see that you have Panda's, Trend Micro's, BitDefender, and Kaspersky's listed at the end of your posts.  Which these do you prefer?  What other programs would you recommend for the type of problems found?

If you want a paid version, I've been hearing good things about Kaspersky's and BitDefenders

Why is it you have disabled everything in msconfig?
It appears that you even disabled services related too your Ant-Virus

Can you go back to START>>RUN>>type msconfig

Renable all Services and startup entries
Ensure also, under the General tab>>Select Normal startup

Reboot the computer
Come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log from LOG A

We'll see if we can get that log clean then clean the others

Make sure to
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

I'm a little concerned about your hijackthis logs, why do I see no instances of svchost.exe running?
Typically they are found in a log, along with others that are legit!
It appears you are, but just to make sure, you are running Hijackthis in Normal windows and not Safe mode?

Files "9634b822.exe" and "09d8886b.exe" were not there.  I believe that one of the virus scan programs I installed (maybe NOD32) got rid of these.  Right now I only have Norton installed, NOD32 has been removed.  The services were disabled before, because I wanted to be certain that Norton wasn't running when I had NOD32 installed.

The svchost.exe file does not show up in any of the non-administrator accounts.  Maybe it only runs on the administrator account (?? not sure).  I posted the logs for all user accounts, including the one administrator account, this time.  Maybe that will clear things up for you.

I haven't seen any of the symptoms that were occurring before, so it looks like we're getting close to being done.  I'm guessing that a little bit of registry cleanup and some of those tools you mentioned earlier and I could be on my way.  Thanks for all the help you've given me so far.

We should update your version of Java
Access your add/remove programs
Uninstall
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
And any other older updates or versions of Java
We'll update these in a bit

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

If everything is running better
We should flush all your restore points

Go to START>>RUN
Type in

msconfig
Click OK
Click the "Launch System Restore" button
On the Left hand side click on "System Restore Settings"
Put a Check in "Turn off System Restore"
Apply it and OK out of there>>Reboot your computer

Back in Windows, Go back and take the check out of "Turn off system restore"
This will reenable the System Restore feature and creates a new restore point

Afterwards, back in your account
Install the latest version of Java
Access this link

Download and Save to your desktop the Windows OFFLINE installer
Double click to install, follow the prompts
Once installed you can delete the installer from desktop

*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer

After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"

*Keep up to date on Windows updates (High Priorities)
This is the most important step in keeping your system secure
Make sure you check for updates at least once a month and/or set to Autoupdate
                   
*Make sure your Anti-Virus software is always kept up to date and actively running in the background

*Keep your Firewall protection enabled
A Firewall is also very important
This provides a line of defense against someone who might try to access your computer without your permission

Update and do scan's with your Anti-Spyware programs on a regular basis
In addition, open Spybot 1.4
Click the "Immunize" button on the left>>>OK at the prompt>>Immunzine at the top green cross
Immunize after every update
