I have got a copy of Windows XP Pro, my intentions were to install it on a brand new hard disc but have just discovered that there is no way to install it because it has not got a boot record on it
I tried to install it with a windows 98 start-up disc but when I try that I get a prompt telling me that the cdrom …..with XP in it will not run in dos mode
I have seen that site on how to make it bootable but with been a bit new to technology I haven’t got a clue how to do it
Can any one advise

For now, try downloading the boot floppies for XP at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q310994 (http://\"http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q310994\")
Hope this helps for now.

Havent tried this for XP, buit it works in 2000.
create a win98 startup disc. locate smartdrv.exe on your 98 box and copy to the floppy.
On the machine you need to install XP, boot from floppy.
Run smartdrv.exe at the command prompt
insert cd and browse to i386 directory.
run winnt.exe
Enjoy!!
Of course you can just download the XP boot floppies from M$

From win98 DOS enter xp cd folder i386 and run winnt.exe
It is better runnning smartdrive.exe first in order to speed install
