Hello @ all
I\'ve a question to you tec specialists !
here we go...
i have got an old Dell GX1 Computer for 1 year now. And i win 2k professional was shipped with it ( ive also payed for it ) and with this ive got the license to use and install it.
That was the beginning. But last week my pc [censored] up and i had to change th mainboard and the cpu. ive done everything possible, but the pc was crashed up and dont get running any more.
then i wanted to use my win 2000 cd in my self-built pc, it says after booting from cd for installing windows on the pc it says \" this version is only running on dell pcs \" (or something like that )
?????
how can i get it on my other pc ???
can i take another \"setup.exe\" or the file that checks my pc if it is an dell pc and burn the new content on cd and try it again, in order to be successful ??????
or what can i do ???
(im from germany, plz excuse my strange english
/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' /> )
thanks for your answers

Bad news,
Same situation but with a different big company. They are no help in telling you which file contains the bios check. I assume its a bios check of some sort. I recommend using a different 2000 CD.
Sorry if that does not help,

ok ive found a trick with a hex editor to manipulate a file known as \"bchk32.exe\" in the \"I386\" directory, after i\'ve tried to run this with this trick, it worked, but only under windows, not when i tried to boot from cd !!
DANKE SCHON IM VORAUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried to just delete the \"bchk32.exe\" and burn a new CD. Maybe this solution also needs some altering of *.inf files where it points to the file.

i know the secrets behind the w2k oem cd.
winnt.exe and winnt32.exe calls bchk32.exe and checks to see if it is a dell. if bchk32.exe find out that it is a dell, they call a different program and those programs execute win2k setup.
so, winnt.exe and winnt32.exe are redirector files and they call the \"real setup programs\"
