Title: changing XP boot image

I read the howto on how to change the xp boot image, dl\'d the palette, changed it with photoshop into what i thought looked good, saved it.. put it into the ntoskrnl with resource hacker and then went into safe mode to replace it.. replaced it fine.. but it for some reason is not reading it and is using a backup copy thats somewhere other than system32 because it\'s just booting up as if i\'d not done anything at all.. when i went back to look at what i\'d done and make sure that everything did change i verified that it had done so but noticed something odd.. when i extracted the bmp\'s from the original ntoskrnl.exe the .bmp\'s were completely black, after i\'d made the palette changes with photoshop and saved them.. then reversed the process, i can now view them with even microsofts picture viewer and/or paint.. i\'m certain i did something wrong.. just dont know what.. any ideas?

sorry, i´ve got no solution, but i´m searching for a reason why i cant import the 16.act in my photoshop, can you help me???
( i´m usin photosop 6 in german or ver. 7.0 in english)

The XP boot logo\'s palette is saved not in the file itself, which you of course an try if it is the normal palette, but in a different location that I am trying to find. They are colored from the palette. If you do your image and then load up the all black paletee, then XP will do the fade right, you\'ll see what I mean.

I can\'t solve your Photoshop problem, sorry!

i got a solution for the pallets... i opened paintshop, imported the pallete and saved the bmp, then open it in photoshop and it will work.

but i have another prob. i also started in safe mode and replaced the files and as i started the pc normally i didnt see anything, do i have to look if it is a 24 bmp or so..??

If you just want to make a bmp file your boot screen with the click of a button go to bootxp.com
