Title: Windows XP Final 2600 Activation
Post by: winxp blues on February 10, 2002, 12:49:58 PM
Unlike many who are using the cracked vs. of winxp, I actually purchased Windows XP Professional.  I\'ve installed it on one of my machines at home w/ no problems.  The issue is that I\'d also like to install it on my other two machines on my home network.  Unfortunately, I activated it on the first machine and now can\'t get another activation code. I even called Microsoft to try and get another and was told I\'d need to purchase an additional liscense for $269.00 or another copy of the OS.....neither of which are options I\'d really like to have to consider.  I understand that this is all stated in their user agreement contract, but is there any way around this?  I tend to update and build new machines every 3 or 4 months and I now find that I have an OS that I can\'t use again.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to get past this or crack the activation?  I\'ve seen quite a few commentaries on how to crack the beta vs. or the cracked iso images, but I\'m looking for info on the final 2600 vs. of WinXP Pro.  Any comments would be appreciated.........

To add to my question:
I\'ve heard that the activation in Office XP can cause problems with getting online updates....ie if you trick Microsoft into giving you another activation code that they\'ll eventually disable the software when you try to download the updates for the software.  Does anyone know if this is true with Windows XP Professional as well?  In other words, if I call Microsoft for another activation code and get one by swearing up and down that I\'ve uninstalled it off my other machine(s), and then run the updates wizard on those now illegal machines, will the updates cause those PCs to be disabled?  Does anyone know the truth of these rumors?  I don\'t see how the updates could disable the software or OS as I always understood the process of updating to be anonymous.  Any thoughts?

As far as the \"illegal\" machine goes, just download the SP1 for Office XP, that way there is no check. Just don\'t do the online update, do it directly from your HDD where you have downloaded the Service Pack.

There\'s no such thing as \"anonymous\" in the digital age. And as far as the updates go, yes you can go back to Windows Update with the bogus machine and download updates, otherwise, all of those folks with the pirate Corporate version of XP would not have functioning machines right now. I would suggest that you keep an image of the OS as a backup, just in case Uncle Billy decides to change the rules later on.
