Title: Caught out, again.
Post by: forrealneil on August 01, 2006, 05:49:31 AM
I am afraid I have been a bit careless recently.

Last night whilst looking for a crack unlock code, I stumbled across a site which contained a couple of trojans which McAfee said it was unable to delete.  I am sure there is a big lesson to be learned from this.  I have run a virus scan in safe mode, and deleted one such file, but just the one, last night it said there were at least three wich could not be deleted or qurantined.

I do use my bank details and such online so I would like to be 100% sure all the nasties are gone.

I still have all of your suggestions from my problem a few months ago.

I would appreciate it if you could identify any files which you know to be malware/adware/viruses

Thanks in advance.

McAfee is now satisfied that I dont have a virus.  Could it be tricked to think that all is well?

Many thanks in advance.

In addition I have scanned with rootkit revealer and found the following.
I would be suprised if anything bad was lurking in in my Steam directory (program for playing half life 2).  I have a couple of games on there - no dodgy mods or anything

HKLM\S-1-5-21-1343024091-1547161642-839522115-1003\Software\Valve\Steam\LastSteamExecutionTime   01/08/2006 17:08   4 bytes   Data mismatch between Windows API and raw hive data.

Could this mismatch be just a problem with the program?

Really helpful advice there.

Twat.

What a 'one and only legend' you must be.

Any serious suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
