Hello,
My computer is extremely slow on boot up, flashes on boot up and when using browser, I use Mozilla, if its a site requiring you to register and submit information it will not post/submit. For instance on this page I cannot post a message at the forum. (I am using another computer.) I can surf all the pages but cannot post - get 'page contains no data' message after many minutes.
Routinely run CLean-up!, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster , and Spy-bot here's my log:

How often do you use Windows CleanUP! on your computer?
Does the message with Firefox also happen in IE?
I see entries related to AOL, do you need the software installed?
Your ISP provider appears to be Verizon Internet
-
I use Windows CleanUp at least once a week sometimes more.
Just tried to post here using computer with issue and I received 'page cannot be displayed' error. I tested a few other sites I have encountered this problem and received same error message or it just hangs.
Don't need any AOL except for AIM - Any else - No!
Yes, ISP is verizon.net
-
Seems likes you have this problem with both computers at one time or another
Are you sure it's not Router setting related?
Try the following
It's ok to use Windows CleanUp! regularly, but I would check the options and uncheck Prefetch folder
Clean that folder every couple of weeks or more
After you clean the Prefetch folder it's normal for a slower startup
I would opt to access your add/remove programs and remove all of AOL
Including
Viewpoint Manager
Except for Instant messenger
Reboot afterwards
Back in Windows
Go to start>>run>>type in
ipconfig /flushdns
Hit Ok
In Internet Explorer click on TOOLS>>Internet options
Under the Content Tab Clear SSL slate
Under the Advanced tab>>Restore Defaults
Close down all browsers windows then reopen
Does that help, you have other legit entries that definitely don't need to be running on startup
Would you like to disable these?
as mentioned earlier, you have had this problem before on another computer
Have you tried to bypass the router and connect directly to the modem and see if you still have problems?
That is a troubleshooting step you will have to perform on your side
DON'T SKIP IT, or you can't eliminate it from possibilities
-
Router: It's a Verizon Fios router and if you plug into the back of the computer you have no connection at all. Cannot access internet. Tried that test before and it's not the same with FIOS as DSL.
Unchecked Prefetch in Cleanup.
Removed AOL Viewpoint. In Add/Remove selecting AOL , only AIM was there to choose to remove. Anything else I should do?
Ran the flush dns there was no okay to select. A black window popped up and then went away.
Changed settings in IE as requested and then closed browser and tried to post - no go.
Would love to remove anything that does not need to be in start up. We are talking really slow like boot up go get a drink of water and apple, come back, sit down and still wait slow!
-
Let's try the following
Just for troubleshooting purposes, let's disable some entries from running on startup
The programs will still work
Java updater
Open the Windows Control panel
Open the Java Icon>>Under the UPDATE button
Uncheck "Automatically check for updates"
Apply and OK out of there
Realplayer updater
(1) Start RealOne Player (2) Tools - Preferences (3) Automatic services in the Categories pane (4) Uncheck all options and then OK
Go to START>>RUN>>
Type in
msconfig
Under the STARTUP tab uncheck the following for troubleshooting
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe"
Unless you use this on a frequent basis it isn't required and is available via Start - Programs. Start the program before inserting a DirectCD formatted CD-RW in the drive.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AHQInit] C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Program\AHQInit.exe
Appears as though it makes the AudioHW toolbar drop down from the top of the desktop and isn't required
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [REGSHAVE] C:\Program Files\REGSHAVE\REGSHAVE.EXE /AUTORUN
Part of the USB driver for your Fuji digital cameras - used when uninstalling the USB drivers erasing all entries from the registry. Only required BEFORE attempting to uninstall the Fuji software or the uninstall may not work correctly
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe
Checks for updates to MS Works
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
Fix this one if it is still around
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
Speeds up the time it takes to load the Adobe_Reader Your choice but not required for Adobe Reader to function properly
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
Application which launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. It's somewhat of a resource hog and some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it usually isn't required - Note: if you make use of the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar outside an office program this application will need to be enabled for it to show.
The next ones related to Quickbooks
They are both related to auto updater, let's disable for now
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks 2002 Delivery Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\Components\QBAgent\qbdagent2002.exe
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe
There are a couple entries related to AOL software that I'm not sure if you need running, but lets disable at least the one of them and see if it's needed on startup, it doesn't appear to be
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HostManager] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1140749247\ee\AOLSoftware.exe
Quoted from AOL Beta Team Manages a component essential to the operation of most current AOL software client or not. You should be able to remove it from Startup (it'll just load when Explorer is launched which will extend load time a bit) but do leave it on your system.
Now let's deal with some entries related to Nvidia
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
Intializes the clock and memory settings on nVidia based graphics cards. Enable if you overclock your card
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
Associated with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations.nbsp; However this isn't necessary for the operation of your system
Can you disable the above for now, from running on startup, this might troubleshoot the startup times
Apply it
Under the SERVICES tab>>Put a check in "Hide all Microsoft related services"
Then uncheck everything else in there
Except for entries related to AVG7
Apply and close
Don't restart the computer yet
Instead run Windows CleanUp! again please
INCLUDE cleaning the Prefetch folder,
Reboot the computer
I want to clean Prefetch so it's not telling windows to preload some of those entries we disabled
Again, bootup may be a bit longer at first after cleaning Prefetch
This should speed up afterwards
If you haven't defragged your harddrive in a while
Go to START>>All Programs>>accessories>>System tools>>Disk Defragment
Run the defragger, it may take some time to complete, let it run uninterrupted
When it's done
Reboot the computer again
Let me know if things have improved
-
Unchecked all as requested in start-up. While there noticed an entry with no name and no command line in the box however it did have a location- HKCU...Microsoft/systems.... Could that be my problem some 'ghost' program is running at start-up? I don't see it on the HJT log. Should I try unchecking that one?
Completed all requests - realzied no significant difference in startup time.
Defragged last night.
-
Don't uncheck that entry yet
If you have, recheck it
Then do the following
From below download and save then unzip to desktop Run_keys.zip from below
So you now have Run_Keys.bat extracted
Double click on Run_Keys.bat, wait for a text file to open
Copy>>Paste back here the whole contents please

You do appear to have a leftover, or invalid entry related to aim
Can you try the following
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box below, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg
Save this file on the desktop
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box

So was it any help?
-
Sorry, yes boot up and open a program is better. I have no printer however and still cannot post on my own computer.
Bill
-
Sorry about the printer, I had you disable it's service
Can you go back to msconfig
Under the Services tab
Enable ALL>>Apply and Close
Reboot the computer
Printer should work again
Is bootup time still ok?
-
Printer returned yes
Biggest issue - still can't post in this forum on my computer and dd can't sign into I-tunes!
Boot is okay. I don't have time to get a drink of water and apple anymore. ; )
-
Go back to msconfig and enable
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
Apply and close
reboot
Can you sign into Itunes now?
-
No cannot sign in to itunes.
It is still slow opening a program and opening a desktop, you had me enable all services are there some we can do without? except for printer of course?
-
I would venture to try the following, this will make sure some windows files are properly registered
Let's see if it's causing problems
Log off any other users on this computer except for yourself
Download Dial-a-Fix-medium.exe (http://\"http://djlizard.net/software/Dial-a-fix-medium.exe\") and save it too desktop
Double click on Dial-a-fix-medium.exe and have it self extract to your desktop
Open the new Dial-A-Fix medium folder on your desktop and double click on dial-a-fix.exe
Under options, uncheck Show Tooltips
Under Prep, Check Empty Temp folders and Adjust Time/date
Under SSL/HTTPS/Cryptograghy
Put a check in "Fix SSL/https/Cryptsvc:"
Ensure all entries in this section are checked
Under Registration Center
Check "Programming Core/runtimes"
and "Explorer/IE/OE/shell/WMP"
Close all other open windows, including this one
Click GO
A window will open, ensure that the date/time of the machine is set Correctly
Let Dial-a-fix finish the remaining fixes
When done click EXIT
Reboot the computer
See if it's any help
Can I see a fresh hijackthis log to see where we stand right now please
Is this the only User profile on the computer?
Can you also supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis
Close Hijackthis, the REOpen Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents
-
More than one user on computer.
Working on the other instructions....
-
Well, I was able to post a 'test' on my computer but then when I tried to post the Hi-jack this log and the uninstall list it never posted.

EDIT>>I fixed the link to Sun Java
Well yipee, I posted here!!
dd not home to check i-tunes, however, I checked two other sites we were having difficulty logging in and could not log-in.
Also, when unistalling Viewpoint Media Player, got an error message that said possibly already uninstalled do you want to remove from list? I said no for the time being.
-
Have not heard from you in over 24 hours? Researching?
Installed Firefox update and Java can post here but not sign into some other sites that require registration.
-
Have you tried adding the other sites to your trusted zones in the Internet option for IE?
If your sure they can be trusted
Can you give me an example of a site your having problems with
-
Ebay, Amazon and Email site are examples enter username and password and then it hangs.
What about Firefox do I add to trusted sites there? If so how I looked around a bit but didn't find a way.
-
Does this mean you can access those sites in IE?
Keep me informed
Can we also check your hosts file
Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Hosts file manager
Click the "Open in Notepad" button
A text file will open
Copy>>Paste back here the whole contents please
-

Cannot access sites in either browser IE or Firefox
-
See anything unusal in the hosts file?
Symptoms still occuring.
-
Tried putting sites in trusted sites in IE - still cannot sign in.
Is there a way to enter trusted sites in Firefox?
Problem still exists in both browsers with same sites.
-
Sorry for the delay
Can you open IE>>Click on HELP>>About IE
what is the Cipher strength posted?
-

I'll snoop around, but I'm outta ideas at the moment
I can only think that some security software you have installed or cookie blocking software is interfering
As mentioned, you have had this problem before, how did you figure it out before?
This is a reach, is it possible to bring your computer box to a friends house and see if you can access those sites?
Like I said, I'm reaching
This is the best I can think of at the moment without trying to run a repair on your system
If you would like to try that route, I'll link you to an explanation of how it's done
It may not work, It's up to you at this point
-
Thanks for being honest and all your suggestions to date. We were stumped before. Actually when we had the problem before it resolved itself, one day we were able to sign on the sites, then about two months ago we could not, again.
I haven't really installed any new security software, just updated what I have.
Trying it somewhere else is not a bad idea. If they do not have FIOS and it works would I deduct that it's the FIOS router? . If it does work somewhere else and with FIOS what does that tell us?
Go ahead give me the link for repair explantion and I'll look into it.
Thanks again.
-
All of a sudden we could access sites again. Now, three weeks later, we cannot. Wondering if you came up with any more ideas?
-
Sorry, I have no idea, it has to be a setting you or one of the Users on the computer are changing
Or ISP related
I haven't came up with anything new
