Title: Error Code 10

Having had absoultely no luck with my internal modem in W2K, I looked in the Computer Management panel. It shows me as having COM1, COM3 and COM4. However, it says that COMs 3 & 4 have an \"Error Code 10\". I\'ve tried de-installing and re-installing but I can\'t fix it. Any ideas?

More details please.
What is the manufacturer/model of the modem?
Is it hardware or software modem?
Did you install the correct driver?
Are your jumper settings (if relevant) correct?

The modem is an ESS Data Fax Voice Modem, I have downloaded the latest drivers from the ESS website but they do no good.   The modem is an internal hardware modem.   I have no idea how to set the jumpers, so I don\'t know about that.   Even if I try to install a standard 56k modem through the install hardware function, using the Windows driver it still only gives me the option of assigning it to COM1.   If I look in the ports folder in \'Computer Management\' it registers COM1, 3 & 4, but says that 3 & 4 have errors (code 10).   De-installing & re-installing the ports doesn\'t help!

make a backup of your registry or your c: drive
reinstall windows
see if that will help
if not, then contact microsoft because if you have the updated drivers for the product then windows is the problem
