Title: I lost my Internet search window - how to get it back

HI
When I turned on my computer there was a pop-up 'Registry recovery - one of the files containing the systems registry data had to be recovered by the use of a log or alternate copy.  The recovery was successful."

After this happened, I opened the internet explorer, and I no longer have the small window to type in various internet addresses, like www.Cnn.com and then press GO. This is now missing . How do I get it back? IS this related to the registry recovery?

Right click a top empty spot of IE's toolbar at the top and take the check out of "Lock the Toolbars"

Then ensure there is a check in "Address bar"

Does the address bar show?
If not look on the right hand side for a couple double arrows and drag the address bar back to it's original location
Afterwards go back and Lock the Toolbars

The big problem is, why did you receive this error, was it the first time?

Hi
I did what you instructed and it still does not show. There is a double arrow on the right but it is a pull down that contains 'Free Hot mail.url, Customize links etc but no where to get the Address bar and drag it.

this Registry recovery has happened to me before, about 6 months ago and I think you helped me recover it. It was a problem with Symantic Live update.

What else can I do to fix this?

I just want to check a couple things
From my signature below, download and save too a permanent folder of it's own onto your harddrive
Hijackthis 1.99.1
Open Hijackthis.exe

Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here

Also, Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as export.bat

Save this file on the desktop

Create a fresh restore point
START>>Programs>>accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Click Create a New restore point
Name it and click Create
Close that when done

If you try method 2>>Deleting the Webbrowser key

I followed the Method 2, as described. I deleted  the WEbBrowser key, then I opened Internet Explorer.
Clicked View -> Point to Toolbars, and when I pointed I saw the drop down for  Standard Buttons, Address etc, and the toolbar default settings were not restored. Was I supposed to go into Customize and hit reset?

I went back in to look at WEB Browser and it says
(DEFAULT)  REG_SZ                 (value not set)

Can you use System Restore to a time before you lost the address bar?

I restored back to a backup from 9/23 ( SAt) and that worked. Can you tell me why this happened?

It is related to a corruption in the registry
But if it only happened once in the last six months
Don't let it worry you

If it happens more frequently, come back and let us know
