I have a home network with 3 wired PCs and 2 wireless laptops. One of the PCs uses W2K OS; all others are XP Home version. All access the internet through a Hughes Satellite connection without a static IP address. The modem controls DHCP and utilizes the full xx1-254 IP range. Connections are through switches and a wireless AP; no routers involved. All 5 connect to the internet with no problems.
The file and print sharing network is working between the XP machines. The W2K PC "has issues"; it can see and access all of the XP machines, but won't let anyone access it. The XP's can see it, but get an error message when trying to access it. The error message is: "\\(computername) is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource....Network Path Not Found".
All machines have the node type set to hybrid and have NetBios over TCP/IP enabled. I think that is correct for the XP machines, but not sure how the W2K should be set. I haven't printed and compared the ipconfig /all between the W2K and XP boxes because I don't know if some settings actually should be different between the two operating systems.
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated! (Besides shooting the W2K PC, which is my husband's suggestion) Thanks for your help!

Sorry Sue, I hope others have suggestions, but I only network with VPN
a Virtual Private Network
I use Hamachi (http://\"http://www.hamachi.cc/\")
Very simple to use
You can still share printer and file sharing, take a look at it
I hope in some way it helps

Thank you, Questolo. I checked out the link you posted and may give that a try as a last resort. My only concern is the quirks in the Hughes Satellite connection; it should work with that system, but I seem to spend lots of time trying to track down illusive settings that will fix things that I think should work in the first place. Thanks for your time!

Unfortuneately, I have 4 computers
Either running XP>>OSX>>Suse>>98SE
The OSX is the wife's
I don't have 2000 installed at the moment
I may reinstall it again as I don't think I need 3 XP's installed

Are you trying to share your normal user account or a guest account?
Are you trying to share all folders or just one folder?
You may want to try sharing just one specific folder
I'll look around and see if we can come up with anything
