It\'s a method to speed up the accessibility on harddisk , and other things , too much to put on a message .
Go  google.com and search for RAID

....Simply put, Raid means \"Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives\" LOL more double talk and geekspeek! /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' /> and yup it\'s mainly aimed at making dats storage more secure by making a 2nd copy of everything it saves. Also in the case of a server that cannot be shut down, if a drive fails it can be hot swapped out without shutting it down. Its mainly a server oriented application as it doesnt appreciably increase performance in relation to $$$ and added complexity.

That is only RAID 1 or mirrored. There is also RAID 0 which is \"striped\" or using 2 drives in parallel. Each one feeds 1/2 of the data to the processor. It does not work out to be twice as fast as a single drive due to \"overhead\" but somewhere on the order of maybe 70% faster. So two 40 gig 7,200 rpm drives are faster and lots cheaper than one 80 gig 10,000 rpm drive using RAID 0. IDE RAID can be set up for RAID 0 or 1 if you have 2 drives of the same size.

Ya....it can also be used to make a huge HDD from sevral smaller one......as windows will see all the HDD plugged the the RAID card as 1 single big HDD......
