i am having a geforce 4 mx 440, the default clock for it is 270 and 400.
it;s a leadtek card, i wanted to overclock it, anyone here know much i can overclock the card,
can i overclock it to 300 mhz and 450 mhz. then the side band is disable for the card, anyway to enable it ?
-
me too!, Ive been doing the same, however in some games at 300/455 ive had some crashes, went down to 290/420 and its been stable.
-
i did the 300/450 route and it was unstable, crashed a few times my win2k, go with 290/420 MAX for decent gains and stability, ALso get the NEW NVIDIA drivers came out last week and hey rock!....about the sideband, i dont know what you mean.
-
Ive been messing around with the INNO version of this card 128 meg DDR for a while. The memory is crap at overclocking. However i took the crappy heat sink fan combo off and put an old AMD k6 2 heat sink on the GPU (needed a little alteration) so far i have managed to get the core clock up to 350mhz the problem is the memory. Ive got heat sinks on the top memory but nothing on the under side. Im gona engineer some later on if i get chance, see if i can get that memory up a bit more.
with the following speeds i got the following 3d mark score if anyone is interested.
core = 350
mem= 407
score = 5682
base score (no overclock) = 4984
(im not that well up on 3dmark , but i assume thats a good increase??)
on the following system
AMD xp 1900+ clocked to 2200+ @12.5*146
ga7dx+ motherboard
maxtor 80 gig 7200rpm
inno 3d gefore 4 400 128 meg ddr
512 meg 2100 ddr
-
what software ur using to overclock it ?
can any1 help ?
-
Why don't you use PowerStrip? Or even better get a much better card like a 9600Pro or XT or a 9800. No speed increase can help the performance of that crappy card. No vertex & pixel shaders at any speed.
-
Have managed to get ASUS MX 420 64MB DDR (only 64bit memory bus though) to 332Mhz GPU and 442 Mhz on the RAM using powerstrip, up from 250Mhz GPU and 332Mhz RAM. This was with the standard passive heatsink but with a very large desk fan directed at the card. This was with the sliders at max and powerstrip wouldn't go any further.
Even though heatsink was cool because of the desk fan, the ram was quite warm and i would have doubts of long-term stability of this card at these settings, besides i hope to upgrade soon, but it would be interesting to strap a fast 80 or 92 mm fan with an adapter on it onto the card and see if it will still do it. I can send screenshots at request.
cheers
-
Sorry, forget to mention 3Dmark 2001 SE score went from 3917 to 4829. Think thats pretty good for a card of this age and a budget card at that (parents hell-bent on crap brand name computers. I need to build my own).
-
I have a Leadtek MX 440 - the best overclocking card I have ever owned!
Using just the Winfast utility supplied with the card, I took the core to 325 and the mem to 450. No problems, no crashes, nothing. After running the card at these settings for a couple of months, I replaced the HSF with an old P3 server heatsink, attaching the card's old fan. I added my own ramsinks bought from an electronics store. The Leadtek MX440 ram is rated at 4 ns, which gives you a max frequency of 250 single channel, thus 500MHz DDR. Sweet! I took the mem up to 500 and the core to 375. Remember, the stock settings are 275 core and 405 mem! The card runs just fine. If you increase either the core or the mem, artifacts appear, otherwise no problems. The card has been running at these settings for four months now. No problems.
Leadtek is the way to go for OC'ing 3D cards - they rate their components way above spec.
-
I have leet home made cooling system for my voerclocked geforce mx440, Ice in a pack in a sock duct taped to the under of my card, have to recharge it(put in fridge) every 8 hours though or it not cool anymore
-
I have my GeForce 4 MX 440 Overclocked with :
300 Core
500 RAM
it works good...
my system:
Amd Athlon Xp 3200+ @ Asus A7n8x Deluxe rev.2.xx 2x512 Infineon DDR 400 clock 2 .....

I've got an MSI GeForce MX 460
default core-275
mem-500(ddr 250)
I cranked it up to
core-372
mem-650(ddr 325)
seems to run stable so far, no extra cooling devices other than case fans.
played with the AGP drive strength in the bios though.
-
I have a mx 420, i used coolbis and overclocked core t0 348 and memory to 401
Got great results on 3dmark and ran morriwn elder scrolls at full antilasting and 1600x1200 res wit 76 fps
-
how come i used power strip and then like my video gets messed up. everything i go into IE and i scroll up and down fast it gets all like blurry so i unstalled it and now it still happens. my mx440 will only work normal in 16 bit color now, no more 32 bit. does anyone know why this happens
-
I would uninstall the drivers and reinstall the latest drivers and in future use coolbits to O/C the card if necessary. Really though that card is useless for gaming at any speed due to the fact their are no vertex & pixel shading support. Ugrade to at least a 5900FX or 9700Pro or 9800Pro.

Hey man, i have a MSI Geforce 4MX 440 and i´m able to run vertex e pixel shader´s games very well using 3D Analyze
/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' /> . This is a good low price card, not everyone has $$$ to put on a Geforce FX 5900 ultra.
-
Yeh you can play those games but you won't have vertex & pixel shading in the game so it won't look as good. In think a good low price card is a 9700Pro or a 9600Pro or XT, anything less is unthinkable for gaming. I get 10600 on 3dmark2001se. Can a 440mx do that?
/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
-
I have seen a mx440 get about 10,000 on 3dmark2001, it was at something like 420/620 with water cooling.
I have a leadtek mx440 and it gets 7000 at 340/510 up from 270/405.
I noticed a huge increase in performace putting the card in a barton 2500+ instead of a palomino 1600+.
the 1600+ only got 5800 at 350/515.
-
Yeh but what cpu was in that pc? Not a 1.6 probably a 2.4-3.2G.

My GeForce 4 MX440 scores in 3DMark2003 150.
How can I make it faster?
Please help.
-
3DMARK2003 tests the directX9 capabilities of the card and the MX440 is only a DX8 card with no DX9 capibility so that my be your problem. I get 4430 for mark03 & 10600 in 01se.
-
I have no idea what the cpu was.
by memory i got something like 900 3dmark 03 (with mx440)... correct me if that is completely impossible. thats what I remember it being anyway.
-
With that card any sub 1000 score wouldn't suprise me. It's not worth bench marking that card because you are just going to depress yourself when you see your score then you see other guys getting 4-5000+. Junk it and get a ATI 9800Pro.
/rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
-
/huh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> Dude's you guys dissapoint me especially "A+Net+MCP" for one thing the Geforce 4 MX440 hs directx 9 capabilities and mine is running at
Core Clock Frequency is running at 600 mhz
Memory Clock Frequency is running at 800mhz
which means its running almost as fast as a geforce 5900 which runs at 750mhz core /900mhz memory
and yes that is a geforce 4 mx440 all i have is one small fan blowing cool air on the gpu which is attached to the heatsink
and i get scores of
/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' /> 13600 on 3DMark2001 SE and 7653 on 3DMark03
So dont come with this crap that it has no directx 9 support or pixel and vertex shading ect because it has if it has the latest drivers it has the support for it
If it is overclockable it can reach the extremes remember that

Any nVidia Gerforce3 or 4 are not DX9 complient, they are DX8 cards. Only the FX series are DX9. The 440's are not able to complete the 3Dmark2001 game 4. They are clocked at 200mhz MEM and 270 core. My 9700Pro is 325 core/310 mem. MX440 have no shader support. The 440 have 34Mil Triangles/sec the 9700pro has 325Mil Tri/sec. The 440 has a mem bandwidth of 6.4GB/s and 9700pro has 8.6GB/s memory bandwidth. These are facts and if you doubt it just ask MaximumPC Magazine. The 440 is an old cheapo card that is worth $20 now.

hEY GUYS , I HEAR YOUR DILEMMA'S AND I HAVE A Geforce 4 440 mx (sorry about caps). it is clocked at 250/400 and in 3d mark 2003 i managed to score 224 3d marks.
P4 1.6
256 mb ddr266
so i overclocked to 300 but the system crashed when i started 3d mark again. Right now i going to try just the memory.

I don't know but I wouldn't wanna try a Canadian Card (X800) because nVidia just kick's ATi's ass by their new 6800 series.
By the way, I have had 2 ATI cards (ATI 7500, 8500) and both of them didn't work well and they broke. Thats why I am afraid of buying another ATI card. This has happened to my other friends as well.
However, I agree that ATi 9700 Pro is a performance card but it's not enough flexible to overclock it according to Maximum PC magazine.
Get a real Sillicon Valley borned card not a foreign card.

I have a GeForce4 MX440 PCI running on a PCI-X slot, which doesn't say much, just that it doesn't run at 33mhz, but 66mhz. The highest I've gotten the card to benchmark on 3DMark2001 is 5578 with 319mhz Core frequency and 425mhz RAM frequency. The cooling on the card is no problem, as I lapped the heatsink and put Artic Silver 5 on the NV17 core. I can't get the card to go over 320mhz Core frequency without it giving me artifacts. I was wondering if _]DarkUFO did the voltage modification on the card to get the higher Core frequency that he did, 600mhz. Let me know.

Hello, I also run a mx440 and i dont get any trouble, Make sure dat ur CPU is not out dated, closed all the applications dat u aint usind and make sure dat u have at least 256mb of ram

/ohmy.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':o\' /> For me, I wont buy any Geforce MX 440 due to it's poor performance and architecture. I would rather spend a few more bugs getting a Radeon 9200(128-bit) or 9550(128-bit). It's clear that NVIDIA losing ground to ATI in the MX range cards.
-
If it's skipping when playing a DVD or gaming it could be a slow cd/dvd problem. Is udma enabled? I suggest tossing that $40 mx440 in the trash and buying a ATI 9600Pro of better.
-
Clocking 440MX too high may work until you start doing some real 3D stuff. I've got my 440MX now at 340-core / 600-memory and seems quite stable, going any higher than this made the system a bit flaky. (default was 275/400). I think I am able to push it this hard because I seem to have a NV18 not NV17.
You can go alot higher, but as soon as you start displaying 3D it will halt the system. I dont believe the 600/800 figures "]DarkUFO" gave would give any stability at all - if they are real.

i just got an Inno3d Geforce MX 440, and it only came with the aluminum heat sink thing (im a noob, so i'm only guessing that it's a heat sink). basically, no fan. i want to overclock it for games, but i don't know if i should without a fan. is the heat sink sufficient? what would be the highest i overclock it while trying to remain stable and decently cooled (i don't want crashing)?

I have a Pixelview GeForce 4 MX 440 128 MB, and I overclock it to core: 365 MHz Memory: 540 MHz (default: 275/405) - the maximum powerstrip can push. and I scored 6232 on 3dmark 2001. I got no problem at all running it on AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (not yet OC), ASUS A7V8X-X, 256MB DDR 2700, Seagate 40 GB 7200 RPM. No cooling mods!

i think it's my turn to put the same 'nice' question...
how can i make my system score higher on 3DMark2001se..??!
because as i've seen from the others posts, i got a preety low crap score:
3000-3200 marks on 3dmark2001se!
my system is:
AMD Duron 1.1G @ 1.22G (110x10)
256 SDRAM
/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />
Syntax SV266A
/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />
Exair (cheep brand) MX440 260gpu/280mem @ 330gpu/330mem rock stable (with a 80mm cooler on it)
and i got a max of 3220 marks. preety deceptive for me.
i know that it is not much of an impressive system but i saw better results from the same video card here.
my main question is what is holding my system to score so low, what it is his bottleneck, what is a must to change to improve the marks?
thanks

I have a mx 440 8xagp 128mb i have installed coolbits and do not know much about computers, i was wondering how far it would overclock being stable.
My computer specs are:
P4 2.4
512 ddr 333 ram
40 and 80 gig hd
and a SiS motherboard.
the only cooling in my computer is 3 case fans.
-
it's all about trial and error

Yo dudes
i have a geforce 4 mx 440 SE 128 MB with AGP 2x/4X Manufacturer: MENTOR
On default is the card clocked at Core: 250 Memory: 333
I overclocked it:
Core: 331
Memory: 446
This al with no crashes and NO additional cooling.
When i overclock it to:
Core: 380
Memory: 500
I get a crash after 5 min of play a game.
So i think The Geforce 4 mx is a hell of a card to overclock.
-
The MX440 is the bottleneck so toss that $20 card and get a 6800Ultra or a 800XT and stop playing around.
-
I got a 440MX because I didn't have enough cash to get a better graphics card when I bought my PC, however I am extreamly happy with the performance I get out of the card..
My specs :
AMD Athlon XP3200+ @2.5GHz (10*250)
1024MB RAM PC3200
Xpertvision GeForce MX440 @ 400core / 440mem (originally 275 core / 300 mem)
All of this overclocking was done on a 450W PSU with air cooling only (4 case fans/gpu fan attached and ramsinks attatched)
-
Do some bench marking (3dmark2001+3dmark2003) and see if you are still impressed or try to run Halo2. No matter how fast it is it still is not a DX9 card and it has no vertex & pixel shading capability so the quality will suck. With AMD Athlon XP3200+ @2.5GHz (10*250) 1024MB RAM PC3200 you have a strong enough pc but that MX card is a big bottleneck.
-
ah hell u guys!!!
i clocked my "budget" geforce 4 mx 440 agp 8x PCI card from the same 275core and 332mem clocks to:
450core and 630mem clocking on my
AMD athlon 2000+ (clocked at 1.8ghz)
1gb ddr ram
lol

You have a agp 8x PCI card? Guess again.
-
Right, yes that's good advice people. Supposedly knowlegeable people saying, Don't bother just buy a top end Ati card instead! I see, money's no object here! then why buy Ati? hire your very own team of computer boffins (preferably imported from your own space or time travel program) and have them whip you up a graphics card. should do the trick eh?

So i was wondering (haven't got a qlue about overclocking) how much can i clock it, without any problems, crashings etc. Which programs should i use?
I don't have any extra fans or smthg like that. The card is untouched.
Is it possible to clock it without any coolings?

I have never heard of using system RAM for seperate video card (AGP, PCI, PCI-X)...this will onlyu work on machines with integrated graphics, or laptops (integrated graphics). In those latter cases, you can enter your BIOS and change the amount of system RAM is allocated to video. If you game...turn it up to 64-128mb (depending on how much system RAM you have), if not, then turn it down to 32-64mb.

but there is something in my graphic card MX440 64bit that i cant play Prince of Persia Sands of time at the start of the game there is a console and it tell s me that
Your videocard does not support some required features (MIN_SIMULTANEOUS_TEX_4 ).
Your videocard pixel shader version « 0000 » is below the minimum requirements.
Your videocard vertex shader version « 0000 » is below the minimum requirements.

You need a better card. Overclocking will not make the hardware better...it will only make games run a BIT faster...no huge jumps...
You can't just Overclock to a better shader.
What is your budget? Are you in the US?
I may be able to recommend a good card for you.

/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' /> I managed to overclock mine to 350/510 (the defaults being 270/405) without any problems. These were the "safe" settings suggested by RivaTuner.

I can go to 400/425, without any problems. I have the Abit mx440. I had an old fan from a Pentium133 CPU, it is about the same size as the heatsink on my card, which i attached, it makes no difference to the ram speed as it's only cooling the core, but it's doing something because the best core speed i could go to without the fan was 300. So even basic cooling methods help quite a bit. By the way, for people who say this card is crap, who cares, getting the most out of what you have was original concept of this thread... peasant power.
