I'm thinking of buying a laptop on boxing day; haven't yet decided if I'm going to get one custom made, or buy one at future shop or some other store. I'm thinking about what the best things to have in it without going anywhere over $800 - $1000 Canadian. I've got a 3 Ghz windows box box running right now, and would like to know the best speed/type/company of processor is the best. I would like to use it for school, so it would have to have 5-6 hrs battery time. Also, wireless internet is a must. Windows XP or later is also a must. I'm not worried about a large HDD capacity (40 GB will do). Mabey 512 MB - 1 GB of ram. Anybody have some thoughts / tips on that?

What exactly are you asking? I have a labtop, but it is 2 years old. It has a 60G Hard drive and it comes with wireless internet(gotta have the connection, obviously). Mine is a HP, and it has about 2 hrs of life, but like I said, It is 2 years old.

Its portable? You'll get vista (even though you get it on comps)

Xp is good, but Vista is good too, lol.
