Title: Win2000: How to install applications as a service?

Goodday good members of this forum,

Can any1 tell me how to install an application to run as a service?

After a standard installation, the app is run by a shortcut in the Startup folder. However, users get an errormessage becoz of things the app wants to write in the registry (HKLM). In our company, users do not have the right to write there (nor in PrgrmFls or Winnt).

So I want this app to start up as a service which runs under a local admin account. I just dont know how to do that.

Anyone? Thanx in advance.

The NT 4.0 resource kit had a cool utility called srvany.exe that would do the trick.

Note: I have only used the srvany file, not the others.  But then again you many not have access to the resource kit.

If I remember correctly you also need instsrv.exe (From NT4)
I have done it with SETI running in the background as a service. Still have the batch file and and regfile to do it if someone would be interested.

hey fellow members, I ahve got both the instsrv and srvany files and I have tried a number of times to get a service going, and even the example on the microsft  site about it fails for me. Fjellu if youare still around I would like to have a look at your files and see if that will fix my problems. I am running winxp pro corp. for my os if that is any help.
