Title: DVD-RW drive is saying it is a CD-R

After i reinstalled windows, my new Lite-On DVDRW SHW-160P6S is saying its a CD-R.

I have updated it from the site, still says cd-r. If i burn something to it using a dvd-rw disk, it wont let me, and asks for a cd-r disk.

The disks that come with it dont help, they are only software installers, and i have installed them, but it still doesnt work.

Hmm best to contact the people who you bought it from. Could be something in your pc that it doesent like. Who knows..

Worked before i formated my computer. I bought the thing agian, and it still says its a CD drive.

well since u reinstalled windows my guess is that microsoft can't find the driver for it so it installed the closest driver it could find for it which must have for a cd drive so have you tried reinstalling the drivers for it

And how do i reinstall the drivers? There wasnt an installation disk that came with it.

EDIT: Uhg, now it says its a DVD-RW disk, wierd.

goto the manufacturers site most of the time they provide drivers and firmware updates free of charge.....

ohh duhhh i think i know whats goin on...your dvd burner registers as the main cd rom drive in the pc but when u put a blank dvd in it it shows up dvd drive?...thats how it workd when i got my dvd_rw drive set as master
