I am having trouble understand what you want me to do with the bruteforce thing.
I am having trouble understand what you want me to do with the bruteforce thing.
What didn't you understand about it?
Here were the instructions
Download and save Brute Force Uninstaller (http://\"http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip\") to the desktop - Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
- Click "Next"
- In the box to choose where to extract the files to, click "Browse"
- Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
- Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
- Click "Make New Folder"
- Type in BFU
- Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://\"http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu\") and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcan worm remover.
Save it then transfer to the
same folder you made earlier (C:\BFU).
Go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.- Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
- Next to the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon (http://metallica.geekstogo.com/foldericon.png)
and select alcanshorty.bfu
- Press Execute and let it do it's job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
- Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
- Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
Reboot your computer
What from the above don't you understand?
-
I do understand it but Let me give you a better explantion, my fault, sorry.
~ There is no actual folder for the BFU thing. There is something that says BFU and it has a picture of a black mace with white spikes. There is also another thing that says bfu and it has the winzip type of icon. Would any of those be the "folder" that you want me to extract?
Oh noes! The NBA all star game is on! Eep, I gotta work at this comp thing fast
-
Dr. Web probably got rid of everything potentially bad, but it's a good idea that we still run this tool
Try this
Go to Start > My Computer>>Local disk C:\
Inside the C: folder right click on a blank spot and select
NEW>>FOLDER
Name that new Folder
BFU
There is something that says BFU and it has a picture of a black mace with white spikes
That is Bfu.exe
Right click on it and select CUT
Then open the BFU folder you made and select PASTE
Now do the following
RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://\"http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu\") and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcan worm remover.
same folder you made earlier (C:\BFU).
So now inside the C:\BFU folder you should have 2 files
bfu.exe
and
alcanshorty.bfu
Now let's do the last set of instructions, I'll just copy what I posted earlier
Go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.- Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
- Next to the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon (http://metallica.geekstogo.com/foldericon.png)
and select alcanshorty.bfu
- Press Execute and let it do it's job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
- Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
- Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
Reboot your computer
Let me know how it goes and how everything's running afterwards
Post one last final fresh hijackthis log
-
Thank you. Progress bar is up now. Gonna reboot comp then post another hijack log, thanks so much for your help. Meanwhile, may i ask where people get this worm and is it common?
-
New log

Looks good, do you plan on keeping Dr.Web installed?
Or at least keep an updated AV installed at all times?
Usually this malware gets installed with files downloaded off of filesharing programs
But it can be installed by other means I suppose
If everything is running better
Go to START>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Create a New restore point
Give it a name and click Create
When that's done
Go to START>>RUN>>type the following
cleanmgr
Hit OK
Let if finish calculating
Select the More Options tab
and click Cleanup.. under 'System Restore'
This will clear all later restore points except for the one you just made
Ok the prompts, it may take a few seconds to remove old restore points
Ok again after it's ready and let it finish cleaning
You should give your computer a bit more protection
Install
SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 by JavaCool (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\") *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates
After updating, select "Protection" on the Left
Then select "Enable all Protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
Spybot 1.4, compliments Ad-Aware SE personal
Another great antispyware scanner
You can download it from
HERE (http://\"http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Spybot_Search_and_Destroy/1043809773/1\")
Install with default settings that are selected
After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and then download all updates
Ensure all updates are successful, a GREEN check will indicate this
If you have an error updating, search for updates again and retry the download until all updates are successfully installed
After update is complete
Click the "Search & Destroy" button on the left
"Check for Problems"---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED
RESTART the computer to finish any cleaning process
In addition, utilize the Immunization feature
After every update
Click the "Immunize" button>>OK the prompt>>Immunize again at the top green cross
If there are other user profiles on the computer, have them login and enable all protections with Spywareblaster
and Immunize with Spybot after every update
NOTE: After doing the above, since you unknowingly had a keylogger installed
I would opt to change all online passwords
too email, banking, gaming, etc...
-
Thank you very much.
I do not plan on keeping drweb, but i will install that splyblaster, and search and destroy.
Also, if you have time to answer this, what could this worm have done?
-
As eg... some things, quoted from McAfee's
System utilities such as Task Manager and Command Prompt won't start as usual.
#
Unwanted files being shared from the victim's p2p file sharing software.
#
Existence of specific files/registry keys on the victim machine.
-
I understand why I was infected with it now.
I run a gaming server, that MUST USE command prompt to work.
Some group of kids were trying to get in my server and mess up stuff, and then I was speaking with them on msn asking them if they would stop or not, and my computer just froze for a bit.
I think they were trying to crash my server permanently with that since it disables use of command prompt.
Well thank you very much!
-
I am having trouble removing drweb from my computer. It says the file is in use, yet it isn't in my system tray, or anything. Help with this too please, if you can?
-
I do not plan on keeping drweb,
Sorry, I thought you said you planned on keeping it
You should have an Active AV running, do you need a free solution once you remove Dr. Web?
-
Well, I guess I could find my own.
But my question was why can I NOT remove drweb from my pc?
It just wont let me, it says that the file is in use, etc. I do not see it running on my computer though.
-
Just went to my computer and deleted its directory. have a nice day and thank you
-
I've never been a big fan of just deleting a folder instead of trying to uninstall it
Too many leftovers to cause problems
I would restore the directory from the recycle bin
Then open your task manager and end process anything related to Dr.Web
Try the uninstall from Add/remove programs again
Ensure you run the UNINSTALL and not the Repair or Modify
