My ps/2 keyboard & mouse worked fine on my system (win2000 on Pentium4) until this happened one day.....
My unbranded PS/2 mouse stopped working..can\'t click/move cursor, no response at all.
I checked..it\'s plugged in correctly to my P4 ATX m/board\'s ps2 mouse port. win2000 detected/installed correctly, but the mouse doesn\'t respond.
Upon checking Event Log Viewer in Admin tools, i found that after each boot the following warning message is logged:
-------------------------------------
Event ID: 18
Event Source: i8042prt (the ps/2 port)
Description: The device sent an incorrect response(s) following a mouse reset.
------------------------------------------------------------
I\'ve searched the MS Knowledge Base Support--told me to use a serial mouse
So I need to get a new mouse? A friend tested my ps/2 mouse & it works fine.
What\'s the problem here? Hardware? Anyone encountered this?
Thanks in advance.

Try yhe other way around ,test your friend \'s ps2 mouse , then you will know if there is something wrong with your ps2 port .or the ps2 drivers of your os .
Probably a corrupt mouse driver .
Put the cdrom with your os in the drive and run sfc /scannow on the start menu .

I had the same problem.....with the same OS.......
Is ur mouse a Logiteck ?? If so you need to uninstall Logiteck Mouseware and download the new version From their web site .......(older version don\'t work under Win2K ......
