Title: Explorer in msconfig
Post by: MSCONFUSED on July 10, 2002, 09:15:15 AM
Using Windows 98, I accidentally disabled Exlorer in msconfig by removing the checkmark.  I know Explorer and Systray are supposed to remain active, but I goofed.  Now Explorer doesn\'t appear there so I can\'t just replace the checkmark.  What do I have to do to get Explorer back into msconfig?  Thanks.

in DOS edit the system.ini find where the shell= line is and change it from explorer to msconfig.exe

when you startup you should see the msconfig on startup. ifx what you need to and change the shell back to normal.

i may be a little off on what the system.ini says, i haven\'t seen a win 9X box in years. its about time you upgrade to w2k or XP

As long as you can get back into MSCONFIG you should be able to put the checkmark back for Explorer. Go to Start>Run and type msconfig in the box.  Then select the Startup tab and put a checkmark back for Explorer.

Thanks very much.  Unfortunately, the Explorer check box is gone from msconfig.  Therein lies the source of the problem. /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Thank you.  Despite rumors to the contrary, 9x boxes are very much alive and well.  /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
