Title: crashage
Post by: Everlasting Death on April 21, 2007, 04:41:53 AM
Well one day my laptop just crahed had no clue what was wrong with it I even went to HP website and talked with a live person but they couldn't help and my friends dad works for HP and he couldn't help me and so I don't know what else I can do before having to get it put in the shop

.:Symptoms:.
Whenever I plug in the power cord all lights will come up yet the screen won't, It will send power to everything but won't start boot-up process so that's eliminated booting from a CD, basically you know when you first put power to something all the lights will flash for les then a second well i think my computer is stuck in the flash stage

.:Stuff I've Tried:.
First attempts were to try hooking up to an external moniter, then I tried a different power cord, and then I tried using the power cord on my other laptop(which worked), I tried reseating the ram, and reseting the computer, I testing the bat. to see if it worked(it doesn't hold a charge long but it works)

So, I would like to know if this is fixable by me or do I need to send it in?

Thanks,

and then I tried using the power cord on my other laptop(which worked)
So it could be a combination of bad battery and power jack
Does the cord from the other lappy work on the non working laptop <-I guess not, I think you tried that already

My guess is the power jack, but I'm not a pro with laptops
They have had problems however
egs..
* Spontaneous and instantaneous power-downs of the laptop for no
apparent reason
* Refusal to start or charge a properly inserted battery
* Movement of the AC power adapter plug causing power "glitches"
* "Clicking" noises emerging from the area near the power plug

Note: if it is a power jack problem, an experienced tech may be able to resolder the loose connection

Is your battery on the recall list?
