Title: Programs Exiting - computer crashing
Post by: Mod Ryan on April 22, 2007, 09:02:39 AM
whenever i play online games that require java, it randomly exits, it's the most annoying thing ever, sometimes my computer even restarts unexpectedly,

The game can either.. just exit without notice, or come up.. 'blah blah has encountered a problem and needs to close' or my computer restarts... this only happens with java... i have JRE 6.0 and i also have the devopment kit installed, iv'e tried a bunch of things that doesn't seem to help (from adobe) and it gets annoying because i often loose valuable information on the game im' playing.

I also tend to get 'hs_err_pid3244' or diffrent numbers appearing on my desktop.. can you help me with this questolo.. ?

Thanks.

Have you tried removing Java completely from add/remove programs and reinstall?
Close down all browser windows
Access Control Panel>>Java
Under Temp files click Settings>>Delete Files>>Exit java
I would remove all versions of Java, even older versions and updates from add/remove
Do this with all browser windows closed

Reboot the computer, might be worth deleting folders afterwards related to Java
unless you have files that need saved
eg..C:\Documents and Settings\{usernames]\Application Data\Sun
C:\Program Files\Java
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java
C:\WINDOWS\Sun

Ensure to have the latest version of Java:Double click on the Installer, follow the prompts

Any help?

Can you give me an idea of what games it's happening with
would Runescape be one of them?

How much memory(Ram) does this computer have?

It happens with RuneScape yes, but it also happens with any other java end user and my computer has 1 GB ram.

I found a Tech support section at Runescape.com
http://www.runescape.com/ (http://\"http://www.runescape.com/\")

Customer support>>Technical>>In Game Problems>> The game crashes whenever I visit certain map areas, what can I do?
But it applies to 2gb ram or more
But take note of the low mode setting

Here's a quote
Quote
If your computer has more than 2 GB of memory and you use Sun Java, you may be experiencing a fault in Sun Java which causes it to incorrectly detect how much memory your computer has. To fix this:

    * From the Start menu click Settings > Control Panel.

    * In the Control Panel, choose the Java option. This should open a window entitled Java Control Panel.

    * Under Java Applet Runtime Settings click the view button.

    * In the box entitled Java Runtime Parameters enter -Xmx256M.

    * Press OK to close the windows you opened.

    * Restart your computer to let the changes take effect.

If this doesn't apply, please try playing in low detail mode and see if this fixes your problem while in that area. If there is one particular area that always causes a problem, please send in a Bug Report to let us know.

I'm not sure what's happening, but to give a bit more incite, can you post a hijackthis log
I just want to see a bit more info about your computer
Download Hijackthis 1.99.1 from my signature below
SAVE it to your desktop

Double click on hijackthis_sfx.exe on desktop
Click the UNZIP button>>OK the prompt
This will self extract to C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Delete hijackthis_sfx.exe from desktop

Go to START>>RUN
Copy>>paste the following to the open field, then hit OK
%systemdrive%\Program Files\HijackThis
This will open the Hijackthis folder
RIGHT CLICK on Hijackthis.exe and select SEND TO>>Desktop (create shortcut)
You can now run Hijackthis.exe from the new shortcut placed on your desktop

Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here..

Although this should not be found
Can you open IE>>TOOLS>>Internet options>>Advanced
Do you find Microsoft VM in the list?
Or just Sun Java?

Have you sent a bug report to Runescape?

I assume that your version of Windows XP CD is earlier than SP2 or SP1a then
I don't think Mic. VM is included after that

It could be a conflict, can you try the following, it will take a couple reboots
If you don't have the installer to the latest Sun Java still can you redownload it too desktop
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 (http://\"http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp\")

Access the Java icon in Control panel>>Settings under Temp Internet files and Delete files
Close Java
Ensure all browser windows are closed
Then access your add/remove programs and remove
Java Runtime Enviroment 6 update 1

Reboot the computer

Back in Windows, remove Mic. VM
Here's the instructions
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_msvm.xml (http://\"http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_msvm.xml\")

After you enter this too the run command
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall

Before you click Enter or OK, be sure all browser windows are closed and ensure to reboot the computer

After you have followed the instructions, reinstall Java 6 update 1
Again reboot the computer after installation
Hopefully this is some help

Edit>>Also, just to ensure it's not conflicting
Can you disable Java's updater after reinstallation
In Windows control panel open Java, click the update tab
Uncheck "Check for updates automatically"
Select Never at the prompt

I have no further info, what did the bug report resolve??
Any info on that

Take note of the following
Your sure that you have updated to latest Video, Sound, motherboard drivers
Are you absolutely sure you updated all the above????
If not, that may be a problem

Can we rechech Java on another site
Go here
http://www.time.gov/ (http://\"http://www.time.gov/\")
Choose your area location, does the clock time properly display?
If so, I assume Java is working correctly

If it is a problem is a certain part of a map of a game, I won't be of any help
Talk to the developers of the game

Well a little update Guestolo, i went to System Info -> Components -> Problem Devices, There are two devices with problems on them, on its my "Multimedia Controller The problem is 'The Drivers For This Device Are Not Installed"

Another Device Is Webstar 2000 Series Cable Modem, and the problem is "this device cannot start"

Another update, is that i just downloaded a driver updater program, so hopefully i'll have them all updated soon,

but for the devices not working properly, do you think my multimedia controller could be causing this problem?

It sounds as if you didn't install the latest motherboard drivers for your computer
Visit your manufacturers website for latest driver info
Let's help identify your system
What make/model of computer do you have??

If you want further info on your computer
Download and save SIW.exe (http://\"http://www.gtopala.com/siw.exe\")
Run Siw.exe to find motherboard info

Actually, hold tight on motherboard drivers
It seems more like modem and gamepad problems

Do you have a gamepad or controller hooked to the computer?

Also, is this your modem
http://www.sciatlweb.net/products/consumer...ems_drivers.htm (http://\"http://www.sciatlweb.net/products/consumers/new_cablemodems_drivers.htm\")

You may try updating, I would read the advice on removing and reinstalling
Also, read the .pdf file on how to update

Get the drivers from the manufacturers of the hardward
Eg.. If your video is ATI, go to ATI's site
