Title: Question about Avast 4 pro
Post by: bigwahoo on May 12, 2007, 07:38:32 AM
I have norton antivirus corporate edition. It was installed on my computer when I had it put together. Once again it won't stay enabled. I don't have the disc, so I have to take it back to the shop. I am getting tired of this, so I am looking for a new AV and firewall. I was looking at Avast 4 Pro edition. Anyone using it? It says it has a network and web shield, any chance is this what normally is called a firewall?

Thanks,
Frank

Nothing wrong with Avast
I use it on one of my computers

Don't let the Network shield fool you, it is not a full blown Firewall software
Here's some more info
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_professional.html (http://\"http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_professional.html\")

If you would like to try the software first before purchasing
Try the free version of Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html (http://\"http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html\")
The free version if good for at least 1 year, a bit longer maybe
After which time, if you decide to stick with the free version, simply reregister after a year or so, I can't remember
No need to uninstall and reinstall
Don't forget to activate it with the code they email you

If you would like to try a free firewall software
Take a look at these

Comodo may be a good choice
Personally, I would terminate the Network shield in Avast if you install a good Firewall such as Comodo

P.S. Don't forget to completely uninstall Norton's before installing new AV

Norton's been removed. I like Avast so far. I also took your tip and installed Comodo.

Thanks for the help
