Title: Ive made the switch!
Post by: Snake-Master on June 19, 2007, 01:22:49 AM
Well this weekend i spent constantly burning disks trying to get Linux Ubuntu to work. Finally did it, took about 5 minutes to install. Ive still got to connect my internet up. Ive got to say it kicks £150 Vistas ass and it free. I think Ubuntu is one of the best Linuxs availible at the moment and its quite good for newbies like my self.  Just thought Id give you my opinion if you are thinking about the switch, remember, create the ISO and use ISOrecorder to make it a bootable image then burn it, If you try it and get stuck send me a PM, maybe I can help.

Now if youll excuse me I have to get back to my Moms basement to play WoW and do some of my Java script work, *nibbles wall again* Oh no ink on my pocket protector...

Thats the problem with Linux, the nerdy look. Its actually easier than windows. Its quite a fresh modern OS.

Well, since this has been bumped, Ill just update some things. Yesterday me and my friend successfully installed Windows 98SE on his old computer (First time Ive got it to work). Anyway, recently I got a new computer with 2GB RAM, 2.6GHz Dual core processor, all decent specs. So naturally you wouldnt want to mess with it. Anyway, when I got my new computer my Dad had my old one and my brother kept his. So we had 4 computers, before I could even plug the spare computer in my Grandad broke his, so he has been using my Dads old one since October. I asked my Dad if we could have that one back, and he says he might get it today when we go for dinner there (My grandads is fixed). So hopefully Ill be able to take it up to my room and stick it next to my new computer, meaning I've got a nice project computer. I'm planning to install Windows 98SE, because it's my old friend and XP (Because I need it for San Andreas Multiplayer purposes). I only have one monitor (15" LCD) so I'm going to purchase a Monitor splitter. Anyway, Im looking forward to having 2 computers to myself, embarresingly, the computer Im going to use to mess about with is the same specs as my old PC, and my brothers.

512MB RAM
1.6GHz Processor (AMD 2300+)
40GB Hardrive

Theyre all I know from memory, I dont have the computer with me at the moment. Im not sure if we will be able to even get it today. I've been told my various people on my MSN that installing Windows 98 is pointless, but Ive had to tell them that its a mess about computer. One of my friends said that theres no point because all organisations use XP or Vista, which is fine, but Ive already got Vista on my main computer. So having this computer back will make it a total of four desktops and a laptop!
