Title: Office 2k majorly messed up after slipstreaming
Post by: fdv on September 07, 2002, 02:26:53 AM
I followed the directions below the dotted line. They are from a member post and they match instructions on Microsoft\'s site. After *applying* the patches, both SR-1a and 2, my Office 2k apps open for approximately 2 seconds before spontaneously closing. (Platform = Win2k SP2 with IE6).
I finished an Office slipstream and burned it to CD. As chance would have it, I was installing a new Win2k system with slipstreamed SP3 on another machine. I installed my slipstreamed Office 2k+SR1a+SR2 CD, and the same behavior resulted. Applications stay open for approximately 2 seconds before closing. I can find no info on the net about what\'s going on. Any ideas??

Thanks

FDV

------------------ Instructions I followed -------------------
Install /a (administrator) to off2k. Then download the administrator versions of the files and integrate:

Double-click the data1.exe file. Click Yes when you are prompted to extract the contents of the update to a new folder.

msiexec /a g:off2kdata1.msi /p g:data1.msp SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb+ /L c:tempdata1.txt

msiexec /a g:off2kdata1.msi /p g:sp2admin.msp SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb+ /L c:tempsp2admin.txt

Where
g:off2k is the administratative install point
data1.msp the 146 MB administrative SR-1a update file and
sp2admin.msp the 29 MB administrative update file for SP2
data1.txt and sp2admin.txt are logfiles

I had the same problem. Order the media for Office 2K with SP1 already integrated. \"Slipstream\" SP2 + other admin patches (there are a lot).

This took care of my problem. It has nothing to do with the version of W2K installed.
