Title: Creating bootable win2k CD from MSDN discs
Post by: kenmac on April 21, 2001, 02:07:46 PM
Has anyone managed to create a Win2k bootable CD from the current MSDN distribution?

The problem lies in the fact that MSDN disc 13 contains win2k pro, server and adv server on a single CD, which means the directory structure to contain those versions seems to screw up any bootable CD you try to make.

There are ISO images available on the MSDN website, but that\'s no use if you want to slipstream SP1 or any other apps onto the CD.

When I try and build a CD as per the various web pages detailing the technique, I can boot OK, but then setup gives me the error \"Cannot locate end user license agreement\", as though it was expecting a different directory structure.

I think I need a boot sector file which works with the MSDN directory structure, but I\'m really just guessing here.

Anyone else managed it?

Get the iso image.  Use a program such as winimage to extract the files to the hard drive (or if you want to do it the hard way, burn a cd then copy all the files to the hard drive somewhere).  That way the directory structure will be intact.  Then just follow the instructions on making the CD bootable again, and you should be in business.

Don\'t get me wrong I like a challeng but isn\'t it easier to make three sepperate cd\'s with the seperate boot signitures.

you anly need one at a time anyway

and come on, how offten do you install win2k server

once every 3,6....12 months on about 4 computers at most

most companys don\'t have more than 4 2kservers.
