Title: Windows XP Fresh install ...PROBLEMS!!!

Well... ok... my computer was starting to act kinda slow on the internet because of my intense downloading so I decided to do a fresh install of windows XP.... however after I had deleted and and created new partitions it starts giving me problems... when I start to install the NFTS on one of the partition the computer tells me my hard drive is damaged or corrupted.... im sooooo frustrated....so im wondering do I need to replace it? and if so whats the smallest hard drive I can buy so that I can install windows XP and install micrsoft office?   /blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':blink:\' />

SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.7
80 GB

It could be the drive is going bad
But many times the drive can be recovered

I would try the SeaTools for Dos

Accept agreement at bottom of page
You just need to supply them with a legit email address, and that's all
You will have the option to put in on floppy or CD
I would choose the ISO for CD >>En download
Burn the ISO to CD

Set computer to boot to CD in bios
Boot up with the CD and following instructions how to use

I would run the long test and let it complete
Or skip the long test
Erase the drive
Zero All
Then if everything goes alright

When it comes to installing XP ensure to do a Full format NTFS, don't use the quick method

I did what you said but my computer will not load the CD I burned. It just kept saying:

"Error loading operating system" /mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':angry:\' />

I tried install windows XP again and I got the same message again...

"Setup was unable to format partition. The disk may be damaged. Make sure the drive is switched on and properly connected to your computer. If the disk is a SCSI disk, makes sure your SCSI devices are properly terminated. Consult your computer manual or SCSI adapter documentation for more information.

You must select a different oartition for Windows XP.
To continue, press Enter."

I tried the other partition and I got the same message....

P.S. my computer does not have a floppy drive. Is there anything else I'm suppose to do in BIOS to make the
CD load?  /unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':unsure:\' />

As it says "The disk may be damaged".
Try a different hard drive or a working XP disk.

Since I do not have another hard drive.... what's the smallest hard drive I can buy for XP and what should ask for when I'm buying it?  /blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':blink:\' />

The smallest hard drive that I have loaded XP on was a 3.4gig. It was slow but it loaded fine.
I would rather you test first using a hard drive from someone but if you need to buy one then hit newegg.com.
It's hard to find any drives smaller than 80gig anymore and the price between an 80gig and a 160gig is close to the same.
The choice is yours on how big you want to go.
The only thing you need to know is weather you need a IDE drive (wide ribbon cable) or a SATA drive (small thin cable).
Look at your hard drive cable to know which type of drive you need.
