Title: Toshiba lappy question
Post by: SINNER901 on December 01, 2007, 01:12:22 AM
Hi people!
A noob from downunder.             So, please be gentle.

Just obtained my first ever laptop. (second hand)
It is a Toshiba Tecra 9000. Seems to be working perfectly.
It came with all recover discs and manuals.

Now, what I want to do is format and clean install XP Pro. (new, legal)

When I insert recover disc 1, I get a very unfriendly “wrong machine”.
The former owner assures me that this is the only set of discs she ever had for this machine and has never had reason to use them.

My question is: If I install XP normally, without the recover discs, is it likely to turn into a big paperweight?

Is there any known way to turn this into the “right machine”?

The Toshiba site has 14 XP drivers for this machine.

Thanks in advance.
