Where do you have the microphone plugged into?
What color is the hole your putting it in

EDIT>>Also, double click on the Volume control icon by the clock
Go to OPTIONS>>PROPERTIES
Check MICROPHONE if it's not checked and OK it

Ensure Microphones volume mute button isn't selected

The sound card slots so the pinkish coloured slot.

Thanks. It was on mute

Yup.

After all that it still doesn't want to work. I got a error when i logged onto Ventrilo one day that there was something wrong with the sound and it switched to play sound through computer or something. This may help.

Try this, go onto your msn, and click the button that records sound towards the other person. It will bring the mic setup screen... configure it with that and then try it. That fixed my problem.

If Zach the Man's suggestion doesn't work

Also look to see it's using proper device

In the Windows control panel click Sound and Audio Devices
Under Audio and Voice tab ensure the proper device is selected

You can also test your hardware in the above location
