Check out the link, there's a few ways of hooking up
You don't necessarily need a router

i think you have to hook it up to your router not the wall, if you dont want to spend 100 dollars then you could get a really long ethernet cable i suppose
by the way add my gamertag if you get on, its xxBOBxxSAGETxx

my dad called xbox support and they said because we are already using a wirless router that the xbox would have to be done through their product..... and i couldnt run a cable because the router is downstairs and my room is upstairs.
would connecting old computer with a wireless card in it to the xbox solve the problem?

I believe that you can buy a Wireless adapter for your Xbox live
You may want to try that route
Not sure as if it will be as reliable as direct cable connect to router, but users have posted they get good connection

Well.. Plug your ethernet cable directly into your computer.. change the computers internet connection to a shared connection.. Turn your LAN connection on if it's not already... and there ya go.

Yes, you can probably take an old box and put a wireless adapter to it and then plug into it
With you Xbox and share the connection, if that's what your looking for

It sounds as if you just need confirmation, yes, go ahead and do that, if you have an old box kicking aroung,,,
