Title: Something wrong
Post by: Mr Bell on December 27, 2007, 04:48:51 PM
Ok I installed Call of Duty 4 today. While playing it blue screened on me. Could be over heating I'm not sure. I've played source games and temp was about the same but never blue screened before. Here is my hyjack:list and dmp file

What's the BSOD say?
Do you have it to automatically restart the computer or do you receive the error message
Title: Something wrong

I don't understand what it says. Just that windows shut down to protect my computer. Did it upload the minidumpfile?

And I had to reboot it when it happened.

Also I tried removing itunes but when I do it says its from another source/ perhaps my daughters computer. She was using mine when hers broke. How do I get rid of it?
Title: Something wrong
Post by: guestolo on December 27, 2007, 05:26:39 PM
Can you do the following
Right click the MyComputer icon and left click Properties
Click ADVANCED>>Settings under 'Startup and Recovery'
Uncheck "Automatically Restart" under System Failure

Ok and apply out of there
The next time instead of the computer restarting
Hopefully you get a BSOD and you can post back here the exact error message on screen

Try uninstalling Itunes from safe mode >>>WITHOUT networking
See if that helps

It was unchecked already. When it blue screened a window popped up. But it was a bunch of numbers mostly. Then I clecked something that was supposed to give me the tech info but I didn't have a clue what it meant. And It didn't allow me to copy the message either.

I did however write down mini122707-02

We can resort to uploading the minidump files
But for now
The next time it blue screens

Write down those bunch of numbers

Take note: If there is a file name below the numbers it's important to write that down also
as eg...ATI.sys

Post the numbered Stop message and file name back here

Well after gaming all day it finally did it. temp was at 28c when it did. Here are all those numbers you asked for in two lines.

BCCode 10000008c BCPI: 8056DDCF BCP3; ADF15970

BCP4: 00000000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP:2_0 Product: 768_1

Then I pressed the tech info;

C:\DOCUME~1\Randy\Local~1\Temp\WER2dee.dir00\mini122907-01.dmp

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''SAME''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''\sysdata.xml

Can you upload a couple minidump files
Let's see if it will help
Navigate to the following folder
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump

Zip up a couple files, they should have the name mini********
*****>>Is the date of dump

Come back here and in a reply box use the UPLOAD button and attach the zipped file

Do you have latest sound and video drivers for your computer
Go to your manufacturers web site and see if there are updated drivers
I've seen some users mention that uninstalling sound drivers and reinstalling has worked after
COD is installed

Also, one dump was related to Ventrilo
Do you have a USB headset or microphone?
Sounds wierd, but some users say you must have it plugged in when playing the game

Try the above and see if it works

That's correct. It updated itself I believe. Keep in mind this blue screening was happening prior to that. Could this be a memory stick problem?

Let me add that it blue screened on me about a month ago one time only. Then after I starting playing coc it did it twice. So in total 4 times in two days

Did you update it from Microsoft?
I wouldn't use Microsoft drivers, but the drivers from manufacturer
AFTER you uninstall old drivers

It wouldn't hurt to check your memory and remove it from possibilities
Try memtest86
http://www.memtest86.com/ (http://\"http://www.memtest86.com/\")
Click the Free download on the left
I've had problems with Memtest86 3.4a>>Use Memtest86 3.3
Download under
ISO images suitable for creating a bootable Memtest86 CD-ROM
Unzip to desktop then burn the image(ISO) to a CD

ensure to burn as image file
Boot with CD drive as first boot

Test the memory and see if it's the problem

OK, for some reason my key board only activates after windows loads. So I can't press f8 so I can switch and start my computer from cd. Now what?
Title: Something wrong
Post by: guestolo on December 30, 2007, 01:27:52 PM
I doubt if it's the F8 key you have to tap
That will get you to the startup screen>>Eg... Safe Mode

You probably need to hit something like the F2 key or Delete to enter BIOS (Setup)
I'm just guessing however

You may have to try a different keyboard
Do you have a special keyboard?

Here's what some users are trying when they have to enter Bios Setup or Startup window

Quote
1. Shut down your computer: click Start > Shut Down, select "Shut Down" and then click OK. Turn off your computer.
2. Connect a PS/2 keyboard to your computer
3. Turn on your computer and enter the System Setup for BIOS before Windows starts.
4. After you enter the BIOS, look for the USB Legacy Support setting. Usually, this setting is found under the Advanced, Peripheral, or Peripheral Configuration menu, however your BIOS may be different.
5. Select USB Legacy Support and change the setting to Enabled. Do not change any other BIOS settings.
6. Save the settings and exit the BIOS. Allow Windows to start.

That should help you in the future with your keyboard

In the meantime, while your waiting

Let's try the following
Clean Boot XP
Here's instructions
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 (http://\"http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353\")

Try Manual steps to perform a clean boot in Windows XP

After you Restart the computer, try running COD again and see if you get any errors
Also
Can you right click on MyComputer>>Left click Properties
Select Hardware tab>>Device Manager
Expand (+) on Display adapter
What is the exact name of your adapter?
Double click on your adapter and wait for new window to open
Click the Driver tab

OK I'll get to all that directly after I post again. The reason I came back so soon is it blue screened again. Good thing I did so I can do above mentioned. This  time it gave me a set of Numbers right away. Then after rebooting I got another.

First set. *** STOP 0x00000050 (0xEF3FD4D0, 0x000000001, 0x8056B5D2, 0x00000002)

Ok I have NOT gotton the other key board yet in order to do the first step. Or I'm not understanding you. However the clean boot I can do that I guess although I'm a little nervous. And that looks complicated.

As far as my computer make and model. I bought it from ibuypower a several years ago. Its an Intel 4cpu Pentium® 3.00 ghz.

Is that what you needed? Anyway be back in a little bit lets try the clean boot deal.

Display adapter is

RADEON x850
RADEON x850 secondary

OK in reverse order. I replace my mouse with the same brand I had a few weeks ago. I might have tried to update mouse/keyboard settings but as far as I can recall there weren't any new updates for those devices at that time. AFTER the blue screen incident I also went to update my sound card because I hooked up my speakers that were sitting in a box for a long time since I use headphones for gaming. Here the wierd part. The reason I updated was because the speakers do not work right. They never did. Another words I went to the area where you click on each speaker inorder to test. So when I hit subwoofer for instance the back right speaker plays. If I hit another speaker an intirely different speaker soumds off. Its always been like that and I can't ever get that to work right.

Anyway adapter information. I'm a little confused since I update a few days ago. It says:

Radeon 850 series, Driver Provider, ATI Technologies Note the date 12/4/07 Version 8.442.0.0 PCI bus 1 device 0 function 1
Radeon 850 secondary series, Driver provider, ATI Technoligies 12/4/07 Version 8,442.0.0 PCI bus 1 device o function 1

A few day ago I did update my video card. Around the same time I down loaded COD4 either prior or right after. I don't recall.

Blue sreen info. I mentioned earlier that it only blue screened on me last month one time as I recall. I didn't have anymore issues with that until I down load COD4 and started playing.

I was playomh last night and this time it didn't blue screen but it did knock me out of game by completely with an error. I failed to write down that error since it was 2am. I restarted the game though and it asked if I wanted to start in safe mode. I clicked NO.

Now I am going to start playing the game with the clean boot and report back.

It's sounding as a driver issue

That may have been important, but as I said, it does sound more of a driver issue than anything else

OK it would not let me play the game when I disable. I guess because punkbusters exe would not run. So I reset it and played. After about an hour it blue screened:( with a different looking error.

Bccode 100000bc BCP1 BOB805A8  BCP21A3A8121 BCP3 AE6C6B10 BCP4 0000000A OSVer 5_1_2600 SP 20 Product 768_1

Also this might be unrelated. But when ever windows starts I have in the last two weeks getting this other error when its trying to load steam unable to load C/program files/valve/steam/ steamapps/shotcreteman1/source sdk base/bin/file system_steam.dll.

ok so I hit ok and the rest of my stuff loads and then steam loads.

I need a miracle.

It's all related to COD
Did you reenable everything in msconfig or just the items related to COD?
Title: Something wrong
Post by: Mr Bell on January 01, 2008, 03:59:55 PM
I reanabled everything back the way it was. You know I was thinking that the first time it blue screened last month was when I downloaded the New Ventrilo. I don't think that's the problem though since I was playing COD with that programed closed. I borrowed a keyboard from my friend. Should I bother doing that memory test now or do you think its still a driver issue?

Well that doesn't really troubleshoot your problems
Why don't you go back and disable everything again as recommended by the Clean boot link
But DON'T disable anything related to COD>>You can recheck them

Restart the computer

Then see if you have troubles playing the game, this is a troubleshoot step

Quote

Yes still do it if you have issues
You have to troubleshoot this on your end!

Quote
I borrowed a keyboard from my friend.
Remember what I posted earlier
Quote
That is so you don't have to use a different keyboard all the time to enter setup or Advanced startup selection

But in the bios, you may also want to change to boot from CD first so you can run memtest

Read over this thread again, I repeat, you must troubleshoot on your end

OMG I went to do the clean boot operation. When I rebooted it said Windows shows a signifigent hardware change and needs to be reactivated withing 3 days. Jesus Christ what the heck is going on. This computer is five years old and came with it. I don't have any cd keys. What am I going to do know?

Nevermind. whooooooo I hit the reactivate and it did it already:) I sure am in a panic huh?

Wow we wow wow wow. I run the game in clean boot like you said. Ran clean, smooth, and didn't blue screen. Furthermore my temp never went up at all. Didn't do anything except that so far as the memory test.

Wow what's that tell you though. I'm excited and in a good mood.

Just keep trying to play it, if it doesn't Blue screen again
This is where your going have to troubleshoot to see what is causing the problems

By trial and error, everything you disabled at startup with msconfig
You will have to reenable slowly

As eg.. Under the Services tab, first reenable anything to do with your AntiVirus software

Then look under the Startup tab and reenable your AV there also

Reboot and try the game
I'm going to assume it will run fine

You will have to keep doing this step till you find the culprit
If I guess, It may be the Google updater Service and/or Logitech entries
But that is only a guess

Do you know what I mean by the above
The Trial and Error method?
Or more the Elimination process

NO, you will find 3 services under the Service tab related to AVG
Re: Back to the hijackthis log
Enable these in bold below

O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe
O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe
O23 - Service: AVG E-mail Scanner (AVGEMS) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exe

Under the STARTUP tab you will one entry related to AVG
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG7_CC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe

ok so let me fully understand what I need to do.

You want me to work with both the service tab and hyjack this at the same time. Meaning enable in both places, reboot, play the game.

If that pans out I repeat the process again with service tab and hyjack until complete.

Is that correct?

I ticked Google on and no sooner did I hit restart it blue screened on me. Henceforth I took the liberty to remove it immediatly from my system. I have the report if you want it.

OK do I continue using system start up and services or can you instruct me at this point to set it back to normal start up.

I have a number of still showing programs in my add and remove that won't remove. Things like itunes, The Ship, EA, and probably a few others. See what happen was I did a system restore at one point last week or more and it brought them back but the programs are gone. But there buggung me big time just being there.

Also that Clean up program I got from you back in the day might be out dated although it still works fine. Only thing is it when it cleans it also forces me to put all my passwords in everything I do all over again. Anything new by any chance thats better. I would like to clean all the junk in here.

ok I am also addressing the keyboard issue. What I found was Intergrated Perripherals/onchip PCI Device/usb keyboard support via OS. If I click that it gives me the option to set it to BIOS. What should I do there?

usb keyboard support via OS
Try setting to BIOS and see if that helps
Take note, you may lose some functionallity in Windows enviroment, but this you may not notice
Take a look here at the differences
http://www.adriansrojakpot.com/Speed_Demon...S_Guide_03b.htm (http://\"http://www.adriansrojakpot.com/Speed_Demonz/BIOS_Guide/BIOS_Guide_03b.htm\")
If you do find that you lose to much functionallity
I suppose you have a choice of either keeping an old PS2 keyboard handy
Or you can always have handy a USB to PS2 adapter>>their fairly cheap
Don't confuse it with a PS2 to USB

Quote
OK do I continue using system start up and services or can you instruct me at this point to set it back to normal start up.
Go back and select Normal startup, you don't need everthing enabled on startup, but for now, just set to Normal
I'll let you know some steps you can take to prevent startup items later

Can you do the following
Please supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents

In the list, let me know which ones in the list are already uninstalled please

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. It blue screened again (once when google restarted and now again while playing COD4). So I am back in clean boot mode. Not really sure instructions on enabling with both service and start up tabs I guess. But I also believe google was or is partially responcible. No matter its gone and now I guess I need to continue looking. Maybe you can decifer the code.

I put off doing the memory test regretfully. I never changed the setting and I need to go back and look at the directions to do that.

This is a very confusing thread, I thought you reenabled everything on startup
It appears that it's most disabled
I don't know where to go from here, enable everything on startup and post me a fresh hijackthis log
Also run Memtest, take the hour out of your life and run it please

You read me like a book sir. Guess I was trying to avoid doing the memtest. Sorry. Anyway I'll do it first thing in the morning I promise. Meanwhile I enable everything to normal start up and here is a new hyjack list.

OK looks like it was set to boot from cd. I am in bios now looking. It says first boot device CDROM so I guess that's it.

Everytime I do something though I get slaped down. I put the cd in and restart the computer and a a screen pops up and it wants a comand promt. It give a list of 4 different comands above the line where you enter the comand. I tried typing in something. NOTHING works to make the memory test start. What do I do?

Now I noticed while this page scrolled an error. something about USB adapter. But anyway it scrolls down and the comand promt line says CDR-DOS] A:>

I'm seeing above current options /MLX  /BL=16  /LEND=on  /DELAY=off

WHAT DO I DO TO MAKE IT RUN?

Beat myself to death trying to get Memtest to work. I burned the cd rebooted and it never work.

Anyway what I did was take a 512 memory stick and removed one and went and play coc4 with evrything running. The very first one I replaced and after playing for two hours it never blue screened. So I don't know. I am going to play some more.

tweaked beyond measure with this whole situation. I must be STUPID if I can't even get a simple test to run.

I haven't seen that error message before, are you sure you burned Memtest.iso as an image file?

Are you sure you unzipped Memtest.zip so you had Memtest.ISO on desktop
And are you sure you burnt it as and Image file?

All burning programs are a bit different for burning with
Which one do you use?

Good news I think. Played for 6 hours straight. So maybe it was that stick of ram. Know we can get down to business and try and get rid of the things I don't need running, and any junk slowing me down.

What about my last reply to you?
Did you follow those steps to run Memtest?
Title: Something wrong
Post by: Mr Bell on January 09, 2008, 08:25:37 PM
Yes Yes and Yes. But after burning it, shutting down my computer NOTHING. I tried and tried. It was bringing me to CDR prompt. I would type in DIR and then tried everything to make it run and NOTHING. That piss off out of my mind I drove to my friends house picked up a stick of ram and proceded to pull out my ram one at a time. I think I hit it the first one which in fact was a very old stick. So I obviously put the one my friend gave me in and went to play. ALL DAY LONG. No blue screen no  errors. With everything runnibg including Vent and mIRC Avg, ATI, It is in normal set up and I didn't turn anything off.

Now your here and I'm here. And I will do what ever you say I need to do including trying to run this test. Just tell me what I need to do.

I used nero to burn it.

Disable Windows Defender as it may interfere with the next instructions

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Access your add/remove programs and remove the following

Older versions of Java
Javaâ„¢ 6 Update 2

Javaâ„¢ SE Runtime Environment 6
Javaâ„¢ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Also, try removing the other programs you had trouble with
itunes, EA Link, Battlefield2142

Also, remove CleanUp!

Reboot the computer

Back in windows
If you had any error messages removing any of the above
I have to know the error message and the program name

itunes first error said The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource
2nd error said Theinstallation source path for the product is not available

Ea didn't have error but didn't remove. Keep in mind the program is one but when I did a system restore it showed back up in add and remove. Same thing with bf2142

Except bf2142 had an error saying setup.exe has encounted a problem and must close sorry for the inconvienence

Download>>install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (http://\"http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe\")

After installation> Go to START>>All Programs>>Windows Cleanup utility
Highlight only Itunes and Remove it

Do you see either EA or BF2 in the list?
Probably not, but check to ensure

EA I see. Not bf2142 I assume I can do the same with EA as with itunes?

You were going to show me what I can shut down on start up? Unless were not done with clean up.

Download: CCleaner (freeware)
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ (http://\"http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/\")
Run the installer, and uncheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar when and if you are prompted
Once installed, run CCleaner
Next: click Options click the Advanced button
Uncheck: "Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hrs."
If you take a look in the OPTIONS>>COOKIES
You can also keep to the COOKIES KEEP SIDE the ones you prefer
NEXT: Click the Cleaner
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right)
OK the prompt, let it finish

Select TOOLS
Highlight bf2142 and try and uninstall, if it won't uninstall
Remove from list

I don't usually recommend registry cleaners
But in this case, also click the REGISTRY button
Click the "REGISTRY" >>Click "SCAN FOR ISSUES"
Let it complete and ensure to make backup

Let it scour your drive
Ensure to keep backup

Restart the computer
Let me know how everything's running the we'll deal with the stuff you don't need on startup

Ok good deal. Clean everything. Things seem smooth.

Now please explain start up. I use mirc Ventrilo and Steam for the most part. Now say I disable everything else. What does that mean if we set it up like that. Another words I'm looking to be able to save as much resorces for my game as possible.

Now another question. Someone said running windows media player just minimized (not playing) while gaming will put my CPU into a faster process sppeed. Is that true?

Not including your AntiVirus software, or even your Windows Defender protections
You decide what you need running on startup
I wouldn't use msconfig to control startup items
I consider it a troubleshooting tool, as you and I have just use
Why not try and install Codestuff's STARTER
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/starter.html (http://\"http://www.snapfiles.com/get/starter.html\")

eliminate what you don't need from running on startup
You can decide what you don't need from the following link
http://www.castlecops.com/modules.php?name=StartupList (http://\"http://www.castlecops.com/modules.php?name=StartupList\")

As eg...
Take this entry in your hijackthis log
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

Enter this at the link
Reader_sl.exe
I get the following
Quote
Speeds up the time it takes to load the Adobe_Reader application. Your choice, but not required for Adobe Reader to function properly
Also, it has a N rating
Not required, optionally you can disable on startup
Use STARTER to disable startup entries
Again, you decide what you require on startup

STARTER is far more advanced that Spybon tool to control startup entries

But if that is what you prefer, by all means, use it
