Title: Win 2000 install

I have been trying to install windows 2000 on my system. It gets so far then gives me a stop error. I think its something to do with the size of my hard drive as i can install it on the same system with my 3 Gig drive but not with my 20 Gig drive. Any ideas please?

most likely a bad drive .... have you ever checkd the drive ...where did it come from any OS installed there?

if you are using a controller card, that can possible put up a stop error. but if you are not, then look at it being a bad hard drive.

Im not using a controller card and the hard drive works fine with other windows operating systems on it( Including XP)

Win 2k is very picky about hardware it does not and will not install if there is any hardware it does not like. the usual culprits are cheap substandard networking cards or modem cards. if you have a networking card or a generic modem card try removing it before doing the install. a friend of mine had the same problem you are describing and after he removed the 9.00 modem card it installed with no problem.

Is the volume information being reported incorrectly??? If it is that would cause a stop error.

Has this drive or has it ever been part of a RAID setup??

Is the drive just old and tired ;-P.

What stop error are you getting?

and as was said above, remove all internal cards that are not needed. also try to swap around the RAM in the system as well, taking out sticks and moving slots and so on.

but the bad copy of an OS, well unless you downloaded from the internet i have never seen that and don\'t belive that for a second.

If you tell me what stop error you are getting we can offer up more asstance.
