Hello,
I'm sure this is a stupid question, and trust me, I have tried to find the answer online but can't seem to. I have an HP dv4000 laptop, running Windows XP. How do I find out what type of card I have? I looked under Device Mgr but can't find anything. Is it
labeled as something else, other than "graphics card"?
Could it be that it is not displaying because I had a new harddrive installed? I know after that happened, I had to reinstall the driver for my sound card, so I'm wondering if that is the case here as well.
And one last question, if I have a better sound card in my desktop pc, would that be compatible with a laptop? Can they be swapped out?
Thank you!

Sorry for the stupid question... I ended up just going ahead and downloading the latest driver from HP. I looked at the list of drivers, and none in my device manager even remotely seemed similar to what HP had listed, so I downloaded what I assumed to be it (I believe it said display or video driver?). None of the others seemed to be it. Now my program is running fine. Thank you!

In device manager, the video is usually under Display adapters
if I have a better sound card in my desktop pc, would that be compatible with a laptop? Can they be swapped out?
I don't think so, The sound card is probably built onboard the motherboard of the laptop
The architecture of both, wouldn't allow to interchange from Desktop to laptop
You would be looking more at disabling your onboard sound on the laptop and adding in either a USB or PCMCIA
Sound device

Whenever the OS is reinstalled,
You will have to reinstall some of your hardware device drivers.
They might have been overwritten during OS reinstall.

Try this. For Vista, go to the Start menu, and in search type "dxdiag" without the quotation. In XP, go to the Start menu and go Run... "dxdiag". If you look through those pages, it will tell you extensive information about your Graphics card.
