why it is whenever i play counter-strike my mouse locks up on me, im using a brand new intellimouse explorer 3.0, my pc stats are 2,5ghz p4 1gig 2700 ram, and ati radeon x700. seem i always have this problem with wired or wireless mouse.. my mouse pad is a func pad and no warn sots on it. and i tried making the cord as straight as i could but it naturally wants to bend since the twist tie that came on it.
-
I think you had a similiar topic that was mouse related and you had it figured to your Wireless mouse
Could that still be the problem?
Have you tried without wireless and went directly wired?
You mention you did, but have you tried wired and a pad that is not reflective?
I've never had a problem with bend in the cord, hmm
-
this is with my new wired intellimouse explorer 3.0, ive seemed to fixed it by putting the ps/2 connector on vs's using the usb plug but i dont understand why i should have to do that, i dont think anything is wrong with my usb plugs, never had a prob with them.
-
is this a common issue?
-
So your not having a problem?
I don't know what your saying, I have one computer that has a USB to PS2 connector
Mind you, mine is via KVM switch, so I can run 2 seperate boxes on same keyboard, mouse, monitor
Is that what you mean?
-
what im saying is with some trial and error my mouse locks up in counter-strike no matter what usb port i use, but when i connect the ps/2 connector it'll work 100%. is it common for people to have to go back to old style ps/2? cause i thought usb was so superior to ps/2. its not like my usbs are broke cause everyone of them works just when in cs when i move a certain way, it sometimes mess's up.
-
one guy on yahoo answer's said this, "It sounds like your power supply is insufficient to keep the usb supplied with enough power. For example, some Razer mice need quite high PSUs.", and friend says my processor is 2 slow, and usb is very demanding, says if i hook my keyboard up via ps2 instead of mouse, then use usb mouse it'll work fine. does either of them sound right? i cant test friends theory cause im still waiting on my wired keyboard to get here.
-
i cant test friends theory cause im still waiting on my wired keyboard to get here.
Wait on the keyboard and give it a try, at least you can deduct it from the equation
-
started up doing what was happening before again, but this time while hooked up to ps2..
-
started up doing what was happening before again, but this time while hooked up to ps2..
What, the mouse or keyboard?
What operating system are you running?
May help to do the following
Download [color=\"#008000\"]Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe)[/color] (http://\"http://deckard.geekstogo.com/dss.exe\") to your desktop.
Close all applications and windows.
Run dss.exe >> follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open; main.txt, which will be maximized and extra.txt, which will be minimized.
Post back the Whole contents of Main.txt and Extra.txt
-
i was refering to mouse, since yesterday when hooked to ps2 it worked fine, but today it started messing up again. im running windows xp service pack 2. service pack 3 mess's me computer up for some reason, it makes it randomly make a lot of noise and programs to lag then few seconds later it goes back to normal, and thats without doing anything, just pc sitting there.
-
Logs look ok
Do you have another mouse kicking around you can try?
Older PS2 perhaps
-
naw, i only have 2 other wireless mouses, only wired one i have.
-
Can you try the following: Just for elimination
Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- Ati HotKey Poller
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled
Apply and OK it then exit Services
Reboot the computer
See if you experience any freezing afterwards
-
well i tried, and played a game and no prob, but its kinda comes and goes so im not sure if its fixed yet, ill keep you updated if it comes back. is there anything else i can go ahead and adjust?
-
came back, i also tried resetting bios today, didnt help.
-
a guy from another forums says it could be this, http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9928/devices2yd5.png (http://\"http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9928/devices2yd5.png\") from where i installed a aftermarket sound card and the error is from the front panel audio of my computer. says that error could be whats conflicting. if so can you explain how to fix, can i just unplug something on my motherboard, or plug it to my sound card so i can use those front audio connections once again?
-
One of 2 things, either the drivers for the sound card you installed aren't totally installed
OR, you need to disable onboard sound in the bios
I would try latter first, when you installed your new sound card, you should ensure to enter the bios and disable onboard sound so there isn't a conflict
Afterwards, see if you still have the problem in device manager
-
still having prob and conflict fixed, i took out my soundcard and am using onboard now. heres my hijack log, anything i can delete? i know this might not have anything to do with mouse prob but i didnt want to make 2 threads.

I still see Ati HotKey Poller running, so I guess you assumed it's not the cause of the problems
It's probably game specific, as it's ownly happening in Counterstrike
I suggest you ask at a CS forum, others may of had similiar problems
I tracked the following down, not sure if any will be of help

thanks, im going to try the setting mouse priority one. the only way ive got it working so far was setting hl.exe priority to low, so im thinking mouse priority high might fix this. and also today with task manager open while cs was on, i noticed cpu usage at 100% while playing, does this sound like a overheat issue? i mean the computer doesnt lag at all, or shutdown.. if so do you think that glue stuff that goes under the heatsink/new bigger fan will help?
-
Doesn't sound like an overheat issue
CPU useage is different
Anyways, I looked back up at the Hijackthis log you posted
Have you installed eye candy such as Vista Sidebar
Any program such as that contribute to higher CPU Useage
Post a fresh hijackthis log, include the Whole log, you cut off the top
And it looks different from when you posted Main.txt from dss.exe, which runs Hijackthis also
Did you check any CS forums for any similiar problems to yours?
In addition, leave your task manager open, does it remain at 100%
If so, what process is using all the CPU?
-
yea i download the xp to vista thing yesterday to try it, been wanting vista, tried it for about 5 mins and unistalled. let me get the stuff you requested.
-
heres a site i found showing how it's a common issue, and how most people fix it by setting a certain file called hl.exe to low priority, which does seem to help for me aswell. http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/forums/thread/244975/ (http://\"http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/forums/thread/244975/\") , about the ati thing you told me to get rid of before i did what you said so i thought it was gone, ive since deleted it via hijackthis.
my whole hijack this log shows,

i have cs running on low priority, im guessing theres nothing else we can do right since cs is causing so much usage on my pc? can you still help clean my hijackthis log file if its possible.
-
If CSS is running fine, then leave it that way. When running css you will always have the cpu usage running high - this changes depending on your clock speed of your cpu and video card. Like I said, if it's running fine, then leave it that way, but if it is slow then you can always lower the graphic options in-game.
-
I'm with Matthew on this, if the game is running fine, don't try and fix what
and ain't broke
On the other hand

If the following entries are still in your log fix them
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LClock] C:\Program Files\LClock\LClock.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Vista Sidebar] C:\Program Files\Vista Sidebar\sidebar.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ViStart] C:\Program Files\ViStart\ViStart.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ViOrb] C:\Program Files\ViOrb\ViOrb.exe
Optionally, you may want to tick the next ones too
to help save on system resources and startup time
Determine if you need them running on startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
Note: The last one, here is what one user suggested
Adjusts monitor colours across all programs including Photoshop. It is needed by some graphics professionals who want their monitor calibrated. Most home users will not need it. In my case I can verify this as Photoshop loads fine
After you have ticked any of the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
Reboot the computer
