You need the Visual Basic Runtime libraries to run Hijackthis, and other similiar tools
Easily done
Download and save to desktop vbrun60sp5.exe (http://\"http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp5/WIN98Me/EN-US/vbrun60sp5.exe\")
Double click on vbrun60sp5.exe to run and install
After installation, you may need to reboot the computer

Why not try downloading Aida32
Download and Save to your destop
aida32pe_393.zip (http://\"http://majorgeeks.com/download181.html\")
Choose a download location under Free downloads, as eg...MajorGeeks FL (USA)
Ensure you have chosen to Save to disk
After you have saved it, Right click on it and Extract all contents to it's own folder on desktop
You will need an Extracting utility, do you have one?
If not, let me know and I'll link you to free ones
Open the new folder
Double click on aida32.exe to run it
Click on REPORT>>REPORT WIZARD>>NEXT
Choose HARDWARE RELATED PAGES
Click NEXT>>Choose PLAIN TEXT>>Then click FINISH
A Report will open
Choose SAVE To FILE>>Then click SAVE
Remember where you saved it then can you copy>paste the contents of that report back here
Or if the report is really big
You can upload the report when replying back
It's the Browse... and UPLOAD buttons on the bottom right of a Reply box
-
i have no Extracting utility
-
Go to the following link
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (http://\"http://www.7-zip.org/download.html\")
Download and save to desktop the .exe installer for
7-Zip 4.57
After installation, go to START>>Programs
7Zip>>7Zip File Manager
TOOLS>>Options>>Select All
Apply and OK it
You can then exit and delete the installer for 7zip
Then right click on Aida32.zip on desktop
Expand 7Zip>
Choose to Extract to Aida32_93/
This will extract the contents to it's own folder on desktop
Then you can open the new folder and run Aida32 with the instructions I posted earlier
I edited the link to Aida32 in my previous post
-
here's the report

This is quite an old system
Here's some spec's
Intel Pentium MMX, 233 MHz
Motherboard Name Unknown
It couldn't identify your motherboard, not sure what the Maximum allowable RAM is
Probably only 256mb
You have
System Memory 192 MB (SDRAM)
Display: Video Adapter ATI Graphics Pro Turbo PCI (atim64 - VT) (1 MB)
Very low Video Memory
Recommendations from Aida32
Less than 4 MB video memory found. Upgrade your video card for better performance.
Install more system memory to improve applications performance.
With the specs of this low quality, you may not get all the performance your hoping for
I have an older box running Windows 98SE with a bit better specs
Can you link me to an example of a flash video your having trouble with
I can run it on my old box and see how it runs, but my specs as said, are a bit higher than yours
If I remember correct
I think it is a P2 350 mhz
Double the amount of RAM you have
and a video card with 32mb
-
all of the videos on youtube
and also just as a wonder could i
just replace the video card from another
hp pc
or must i buy a new one
-
I wouldn't invest to much money into this system
But if you can find a really cheap PCI video card with at least 32 or 64mb
It wouldn't hurt
With that said, I took a look at the minimum requirements at Youtube
It is suggested
In order to watch videos on our site, make sure that you have access to the following system requirements:
1. Macromedia Flash Player 7.0+ plug-in
2. Windows 2000 or higher with latest updates installed
3. Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
4. Firefox 1.1+, Internet Explorer 5.0+ or Safari 1.0+
5. Broadband connection with 500+ Kbps
Now, I can watch video with my 98SE machine, but like you, it is a bit choppy
Some appear to hesitate (freeze) before playing, but eventually start
I dual boot 98SE with 2000
Both are a bit choppy, must be our older systems
On my other desktop and this laptop, everything runs just fine, but they are quite a bit newer
So really no comparison
Workaround: IE has Orbit downloader>>I've never used it and according to Orbit
98SE does not meet minimum requirements
So that's out of the question
I used Firefox with a Videodownloader extension
and downloaded the video to desktop
Then you need a player that can play .flv files
I used Gom Player, it plays nice and smooth,
NOTE: Gom says it requires a Pentium3 system, you and I both don't meet that requirement
But it plays just fine for me
would you like to try this workaround?
-
yea sure i want mind trying the work around
anything to save a few extra bucks lol
-
Try this
Download and save to desktop the installer for Firefox from the link
Firefox 2.0.0.16 (http://\"http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html\")
Install Firefox, you can Import your favorites from IE when installing
After installation
Go to the following link
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 (http://\"https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006\")
Install Now on Video DownloadHelper 3.2.2
Note: If you get a prompt below the top menu bar
You will have to Allow addons.mozilla.org rights to install addon
The step is almost automated
After DownloadHelper is installed
and Firefox restarted, you will have a new icon beside the address bar, next to the Home button
This is related to DH
Go to youtube, when there is content that is downloadable on a page
DH's icon will animate, you can select a video to watch
After the video is started you can Pause it
Then use the drop down arrow beside DownloadHelper icon and select the download type
I think one will download while the video is still streaming
and one will wait till it is competely loaded
Your option
By default, DH will choose to save the .flv file (flash video) to dwhelper folder
You can change the default, up to you
After the video is downloaded
Try GOM player to view it
Go to the following link
GOM Player (http://\"http://www.download.com/GOM-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10551786.html?part=dl-GOMMediaP&subj=uo&tag=button&cdlPid=10824936\")
Download>>Save to desktop>Then install Gom Player
After installation, you can check to ensure it's associated with .flv files
Click GOM at the top left>>Preferences>>Others>>
Ensure .flv file is selected, you can select All video files if you like, your preference
Close GOM
Navigate to the downloaded video file in your selected download location
It should be associated with GOM
Try running it
-
thanks
my only problem is firefox is slow at times
maybe i should just upgrade to a new video card
any suggestion of a
cheap good card i can use
-
Flash sites may a bit slow at times
But, that is probably because of low computer specs
I don't know what motherboard you have
I doubt there is even an AGP slot, but you would have to open the computer to check
Go AGP if possible
If not, you could add in a PCI video card, with at minimum 32mb Ram
Also, add more RAM if possible
All this will cost some cash
You must decide if the old computer is worth the bucks
Maybe it's time to update?
-
i don't think i have one i am going to just use a pci slot
