Is SP2 everything you hoped it\'d be? Did it fix all your problems, or create more? We want to know! If you don\'t have it already, download it here (http://\"http://msvaus.www.conxion.com/download/win2000platform/sp/sp2/nt5/en-us/w2ksp2.exe\").

Fine on my P4 1.7... ATA100 is considerably faster...
-
which ata drivers were you using on SP1? were u using the intel ultra ata driver? or just the default win2k one?
-
No problems here, installed fine over SP-1.
-
Well once you install SP2, you can forget any 16bit applications. Aparently Microsoft has decided that we nolonger need them... Hmmmm?
-
Has anyone tried slipstreaming SP2 into Win2k yet? if so how did it go?
-
Yeah, I slipstreamed SP2. It\'s the same as slipstreaming SP1. The SP2 already has all the SP1 fixes and 128-bit encryption also. Therefore you don\'t need to do SP1 before SP2. You can sliptream SP2 directly. You can though slipstream SP2 over a previous slipstreamed SP1 if you already done so. I did the install to make sure everything goes A okay on both methods already. One minor thing though, it appears SP2 is not officially final yet. It\'s actually RC-2, and you never know if RC-2 will be the final build or not. Hopefully it is, cause 100 megs is a bitch to download.

I had 1 problem running SP2 with the Logitech Mouseware 9.2x drivers. It BSOD on me while booting up.
Solution : Get yer bootable W2K cd, choose for recovery, then Console mode and rename the
L8042pr2.sys file in the x:winntsystem32drivers directory.
And it runs again... (bad, bad, Micro$oft.. I thought they had tested their crap)
No other problems encountered, and didn\'t see any speed improvements on UDMA100
-
No problems, runs fine on my ABIT KT7A, Thunderbird 900.
-
RC2 seems to be the same as the releaced version from microsoft
-
After installing SP2, I can no longer hibernate my Inspiron 8000.
I\'m going to have to reinstall Win2K i fear, which of course means reinstalling Office 2K, which means having to call M$ and beg for a new serial number for software I already own

You can just uninstall SP2 if you want (assuming you didn\'t uncheck the box to backup all your files first).
-
I have a 16-bit database program, and it works just as well after SP2 as it did before.
-
When i make bootable Windows2000 (Intergrated with SP2) ,this file \"cdromsp2.tst\" it was important for making bootable.
-
After SP2 installation I tried burning a CD. Every time I have buffer underruns at 8x
on a 1200mhz system. Never did before.
-
I installed sp2 and now my ms office doesnt work.. Anyone know why??? it askes for office1.cad but cant find it when i try to use office.. I tryed reinstalling it but it still asks for office1.cad. I uninstalled sp2 and office worked perfect?? why is this??????
-
dude just click about on any of the office 2k programs and write down the serial, how can u own office 2k and not have the serial key.
-
There is an office1.caB in the root of your office 2000 cd.
Have you tried reinstalling office 2000 after installing SP2?
You need the original office cd to uninstall/install office.
-
Thanks for the posting....
It solved my problem.....
Thanks again.....
-
i cant find the software to make my ifeel mouseman work
-
Every thing is the same as with sp1 .
No problems (abit BF6 p3 700 , 3x128 pc133 ) .
-
thanks for the tidbit...it helped restore my win2k configuration without the dreaded reinstall!
-
I have some old Access 2.0 (16 bit) database I havent gotten around to converting. They work just fine under sp2.
-
Cub-X, thanks a third time!
you da man!
your solution worked perfectly!
-
Thank you for posting this solution - you probably saved me hours on a support call!
-
Tell me more about cdromsp2.tst, does this stop the Boot CD asking for the Service Pack CD? If so what are the file contents?
-
I think some of the Logitech drivers are not supported under Win2K (as per Logitech support). I have problems here with the Logitech drivers BSODing machines.
-
I noticed that IIS would not run on my machine after sp2. It just hangs on start up (running win2kpro on pentium iii 800). Any suggestions folks? I need it for local testing of web apps.
-
I go the same *EXACT* L8042pr2.sys message, prefacing it was KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. thankfully, i found your post so that i know what to reinstall. bless you!
-
WOW, i have to jump on the bandwagon here, Cube-X\'s solution rocked.
Thanks again.
-
Thanks for the L8042pr2.sys tip on the Logitech drivers Cub-X. I was at defcon 5 and about 30 seconds away from initiating format sequence.
-
Ditto. I do seem to have a small problem left. Does anyone run VNC? Ever since the patch, if I try to hit the server from a client, VNC causes a BSD. I\'m just wondering if VNC is the culprit.
(Win2k Advanced Server, SP2)
-
Thank you you\'re a lifesaver
-
cdromsp2.tst is nothing but a txt file with 0kb. Make it with notepad and but in the root of your boot cd-rom..
Or check this out.

After installing Service Pack 2 my Microsoft Digital Sound System had a lot of noise when playing back music every time i recovered from hibernation.
Solution 1 : after recovering from hibernation go standby and recover from standby... the sound is clear again
Solution 2 : uninstall SP2
I uninstalled SP2. It\'s a shame microsoft doesn\'t check compatibility of their software with their own hardware !!!

Is there some trick to extracting sp2? i have downloaded it numerous times, and not been able to extract the files once. i can only run it from the location, is there some way to add the -x switch to the internet explorer download dialog? please it\'s making me crazy.
-
maybe i should add, that the problem is, whenever i try to extract, or even run a service pack i\'ve downloaded, it tells me \"extraction failed. file is corrupt.\"
-
Is your system overclocked? That is a common cause of file extracting errors.
-
nope, not overclocked. it\'s really starting to piss me off. what surprises me, is i haven\'t seen one other post from a person who has this problem. i really don\'t have any idea why i can\'t download and extract a simple file. maybe the file is actually corrupt? when was the last time anyone downloaded and used it? i\'m pretty sure i\'ve downloaded it from at least 5 different sources, but maybe they\'re all just links to the same one.
-
How are you downloading the file?
If you are using internet explorer try clearing the temporary internet files and redownload the file.
I also recommend using a download manager such as getright.
Mirroring the service pack files doesnt make much sense, so most likely they were all pointing to Micro$oft.
Have you tried using winzip to extract the files?
-
i haven\'t tried using winzip, i actually don\'t use it, most of the archives i find are rar or ace archives, so i use winace or winrar. i actually did get the fies to extract, i don\'t know what i did, does having 2 copies of a file make any difference? i found an old one i had downloaded the other day, in a folder i hadn\'t checked, and it extracted fine. now i\'m just trying to get a good download of win2k pro. the one i was going to use has been sitting on a cheap cd for months, and i can\'t get driver.cab to extract. oh well, found another copy that is going slowly, but i\'ll have it in 6 hours or so. thanks for the suggestions. i actually had avoided using download managers, because flashget had been giving me a lot of problems with corrupt files, but since the file i want is a zip anyways, and flashget allows fixing of corrupt zips, i may just try that again. i\'m using getright at the moment but it isn\'t speeding things up any.

All I had to do to solve the start-up problem of L8042pr2.sys, was to unplug the USB logitech mouse and use a normal serial mouse once. Then I installed the latest Mouseware drivers and it works fine now. L8042pr2.sys seems different now (2kb larger).
-
I had the same problem with L8042pr2.sys with the BOSD.
I did the recovery/repair from the NT CD then console mode and renamed it to L8042pr2Crashed.sys (any name doesn\'t matter).
Credit should be given to Cub-X as I followed his instruction to fix it.
Thanks, it saved 8 hours + install on a critical machine in our company.
-
Cub-X: Just want to let you know you saved my system with your solution for BSOD with L8042pr2.sys from back in May. I didn\'t even know this Board existed; I just Googled that module name and up popped your solution. All the experts couldn\'t resolve it, although it admittedly was a little tricky because there is no Logitech mouse on this system. Apparently there once was, and the drivers were never removed.
Everlasting thanks!
