I have a HP Laptop, it is the HP Pavillion zv6000. I have had it plugged into my wall outlet and running well for quite some time now. I don't think I acquired a virus but I'm not sure. Things seemed to be running well, until today. I opened up the laptop, and it was on the login screen. I saw my name, however I did not see a mouse cursor. I waited quite some time but then decided to shut it off. I turned it back on and I see the hp screen pop up in the beginning and then it goes black and ultimately gets stuck. I then tried to boot it in the last good config, with no luck. My next option was to try to run it in safe mode, the command prompt language flys down the screen then stops and stays there. The fans at all times are running full speed. Do you think my hard drive crapped out? (No weird noises other than the fan running quickly)

Update... I unplugged the power-cord from the back and turned it on. It booted up normally. Then I plugged the cord back in and everything seemed 100% Maybe this was caused by an improperly plugged in power cord to the back of the computer? Or do you think this is a sign of a bad power supply?

Good thing is it's working, not sure what the problem might be
Faulty power cable perhaps
But if it's working that's a good thing

One thing you may want to try for a double check
Shutdown the laptop
unplug the power cord from the laptop, then remove the battery
Hold down the power button for a minute to discharge capacitors
Check the connections to the power brick and then only connect power cord back to laptop
Don't put the battery back in yet
See if it will boot properly
If it does, you may be ok, may be a one time occurrance
Next time you shut down the laptop, go ahead and reinsert the battery
