Title: Internet constantly disconnecting
Post by: wormit on December 18, 2008, 10:28:17 PM
Hi,

I have a problem with my adsl connection. It constantly keeps connecting and disconnecting from time to time. Some times my laptop suddenly restarts. This statrted happening after i started using the adsl connection. I got the isp to check it out. But they just said the socket connecting the phone line to the modem was old and changed it. After that it was working fine yesterday. But today again, the same thing is happening. Could it be a virus or something? Please help. I have posted the hijack list below. And also, the reason it gives for disconnecting is "spurious atu detected"

Title: Internet constantly disconnecting

Here's a link explaining possible causes of dropouts
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-repli...cfm/319985.html (http://\"http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/319985.html\")

Check out the first post>>Step 1-13

However, laptop restarting
Right click on MyComputer>>Left click PROPERTIES>>ADVANCED>>SETTINGS (Under Startup and Recovery)
Under SYSTEM FAILURE, Untick Automatically Restart
Ok out of there

Next time, instead of restarting, it may Blue screen with an error message
Post that error message back

Edit: Just to double check the following
"spurious atu detected"
Can you try disconnecting any other device using your phone lines
I know you won't be able to temporarily receive phone calls
But it may help to isolate the problem
That error is sometimes common on the ISP's end, did you give them that error message?

They fixed a one slot socket. So i cant use the phone when im using the internet. So i guess the internet is the only device connected to that phone line. This usually happens in the morning and after midnight.

Did you let your ISP know about that error message?

I don't see nothing in that log

Let's just double check with the following
Download and save to your desktop
OTScanIt2 (http://\"http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTScanIt2.exe\")
by OldTimer

Double click on it to Run it and then Extract it to a folder on desktop
Open that newly created folder and double click on OTScanIt2.exe
On the right hand side, under "Additional Scans"
Put ticks next to the following

Reg - Tcpip Persistent Routes
Reg - Winsock2 Catalogs
Evnt - EventViewer Logs (Last 10 Errors)

Then click on Run Scan

When done, it will produce a log
Can you post the contents of that log back here please
A copy of it can also be found it the OTScanIt2 folder on desktop
