Title: desktop icons

All of a sudden, all of my desktop icons (windows 2000) are running all over the screen. When I try to put the cursor on an icon, the icon just runs away.  my trackpad works, as does the mouse, inside of any application....it is only the desktop icons that are running away.  and the icons that are inside the taskbar work fine.

What can this be and what are your suggestions that I do?
