Title: Login error # 1504
Post by: Marcia on December 09, 2009, 08:34:48 PM
I decided to delete my extra user profiles on my pc and use just one, which has administrator rights.  When I went to log in to my bank account I received an error code of # 1504.  I called the bank and they reset my password but that didn't work.  Before I deleted the other profiles I was able to log in to the bank's website using the profile that I now have.  I have a HP Pavilion zv running Windows XP.

I'm no expert, but the first thing I would try is logging in with a different browser.  If you use Internet Explorer, then try signing in with Firefox (which is a superior program anyway) and if you use firefox, then try IE.

Download Firefox here  http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html (http://\"http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html\")

That's not a solution.  My login worked fine before in IE and now it doesn't.

Let me explain how my son, not me, performed the process of deleting my other user profiles so that I only use one.  He installed a useful program called Free Commander that lets you view two files on a split screen.  He then proceeded to copy/replace some of the items from the users I wanted deleted into the one user profile I wanted to keep.  He wasn't taking his time with this process and I feel he may have copied some settings in their profiles and overwrote my settings that did allow me to access my bank account.

What you are saying is hard to understand.  User profiles in windows should have no effect on being able to access a bank's website and login.

Are you able to access your bank account from another computer?  Banks typically won't allow a browser to save a password, sometimes not even the user name via a cookie, so it makes no sense, to be honest, what you are saying and how it could possibly have messed up access to your bank's website.

If you are able to access the bank via Firefox, how is that not a solution?  Using IE, are you able to surf the web and go to other sites?  Or is IE messed up completely?

There is no need to have a seperate program to "view two files on one screen" as you put it.  You can size windows smaller and open as many folders as you want and view two, three or however many you need.

Also, can you be more specific about that error code.  Where did it show up?  In internet explorer? On the bank's site?  In windows itself?

First let me clear up something...I know I can open as many windows as I want to view on one screen.  Whether or not I want to use a program to do this is my personal preference.

User profiles in windows does have an effect on accessing my bank login.  Let's call my user profiles "A" (for Admin rights) and "L" (for limited rights).  IE works fine...there's no problem with my browser.  When I used "A" I could log into the bank account.  When I used "L", I could not.  For personal reasons I decided to make one user profile.

I'm able to go to the bank's website.  I enter my user id and password and then another window pops up with the error code of # 1504.

I can log in using another pc with no problem.  This tells me it has something to do with my user settings and maybe the limited access rights from profile "L" were somehow written over the settings on profile "A".

Let's just take a closer look
Download OTL.exe (http://\"http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe\") by OldTimer to your Desktop.

NOTE: If you have trouble, or an error message trying to post the logs
Can you upload it to a reply box
In a Reply, select "Browse..." on the bottom right and then navigate to the file and select it
Then click "Upload"

I had to use the following link to access that site
http://websterfirst.reachlocal.com (http://\"http://websterfirst.reachlocal.com\")
I got the following prompt when I went to the site by the way
Quote
Dear Members, Online Banking will be unavailable from 8am to approximately 2pm on 12/13/09 for year-end System Maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. IT Dept

Try the following, let's see if it's any help
Can you temporarily disable Spybot TeaTimer, let's ensure it doesn't interfere with anything that we try:
Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
Click on Resident icon.
Uncheck Teatimer box.
Click Allow Change box if prompted
Close Spybot

Reboot the computer for the change to take effect

Download and save to desktop JavaRa.zip (http://\"http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/javara/javara/JavaRa/JavaRa.zip?use_mirror=iweb\")
Alternate download location>>http://majorgeeks.com/JavaRA_d5982.html
Right click on JavaRa.zip and choose to Extract All to desktop
We'll need this in a bit

Can you save the rest of these instructions to a Notepad file on desktop
Close down all instances of IE

Open Internet Options in the Windows Control Panel

Open the SECURITY tab, then click on "Reset all zones to default level"

Click on the CONTENT tab, then click on "Clear SSL state"

Click on the ADVANCED tab, then click on "Restore Advanced Settings"

Click on the GENERAL tab, then click on DELETE under 'Browsing History'
Choose to Delete everything except for Passwords

Access your Add and Remove programs and remove
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
After removal, if prompted to reboot the computer, don't do so yet

Open the JavaRA folder and double click on JavaRa.exe to run it
In the dropdown menu select ENGLISH for language
Then click on SELECT
Select "Remove Older versions" and YES to the prompt
Close the log that's produced

Reboot your computer

See if that's any help

I did everything you suggested but it didn't work.  What I decided to do is make another user profile with administrator rights.  I then logged into the bank and I was allowed access.  Now I'll just transfer my files and desktop to the new user and delete the profile that won't allow me access.  Thank you for trying.

Good work Marcia, I was going to suggest creating another profile, but you seemed to figure it out yourself
