Title: upgrading win98 to win2k
Post by: gaucho on January 22, 2003, 06:09:25 AM
Hi,

I hv what i think is a simple question.. wud appreciate if you can help me out..

I have win98 on my Laptop which I am upgrading to win2k.

I insert the win2k (new, licenced version) CD and the setup wizard shows up. There r 2 options, Option 1 to Upgrade and Option 2 to do a clean install.

However, the option to upgrade is disabled while only the option for clean install is available. why is that??

There might be one reason but I am not sure of it.. THe windows 98 is a Portuguese version while the Windows 2000 I am trying to Upgrade to is in English. Is this the reason for the upgrade option being disabled???

I would really prefer to upgrade because there is lot of data on the C: apart from a few thousand emails in Outlook Express!!!

thnx,
gaucho

i would advice u NOT to upgrade. that option allways causes trouble despite what micro$oft says. if u have enogh space on your hard disk make a new partition and install win2k on it. create a dual boot and keep your old win98. you might need it yet.
