I tried to do a edit.reg, following some similar advise given out on this forum as follows:
REGEDIT4[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]"LowerFilters"=-
Did a restart after applying changes....still no luck....

That registry fix you tried was not proper
But I'm unsure a proper reg. fix will help anyways
But try the following:
=Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg
Save this file on the desktop
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"LowerFilters"=-
Double click on fix.reg and allow to add/merge to the registry at the prompt
Reboot the computer
See if that helps
-
no luck...

That's because the registry fix is not properly importing to the registry
What operating system are you running?
Do you get advised that the information imported to the registry successfully?
-
Windows 7
-
right click on fix.reg and choose to "Run as Administrator"
Allow to add/merge to the registry when prompted
Reboot the computer
Back in Windows
I assume your running a .bat file to show me the contents of that key
Can you right click on that .bat file and choose to "Run as Admin" then post it's contents
-
When i right click on the fix.reg file, it doesn't have an option to run as administrator. Although, the .bat file does...
-
Let's manually try to remove that value
Go to START
In the SEARCH field type regedit
Ok any prompt that you may get
Navigate to the following key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
by clicking on the Expand(+)
(+)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
(+)SYSTEM
(+)CurrentControlSet
(+)Control
(+)Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Highlight the exact key {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the right hand side look for the following value
LowerFilters
right click on LowerFilters and select DELETE
Close the registry editor, reboot the computer and let me know if that helps
-
Hmmm... that's odd, it's already gone....

I tried playing a CD again just in case, still no luck... DVDs run fine still, though...
-
Can you enter Device Manager
Right click on your DVD/CD drive and choose to Uninstall it
Reboot the computer
Back in Windows, Windows should reinstall the drive
Reboot one more time, see if it's any help
