Title: Upgrade with WinXP Full CD
Post by: LoneRngr on February 06, 2003, 09:05:28 PM
I have recently been given Windows XP Home Edition as a gift, and it is the full version.  I am currently running Win98SE, and I don\'t wish to lose everything by reformatting, so I want to try and upgrade the current installation.  However, when I insert the XP CD, it says an upgrade cannot be preformed at this time because a file on the CD cannot be found.

Is it possible to upgrade to XP from the Full Version CD without losing all my information, or is a complete reinstall the only solution?  Thanks.

Even with an upgrade it isn\'t advisable to install winxp over win98se .I would make a clean install , your system will be much more stable .You can always save your msword files and other office files , even your email and wab file .

Hi,

I advise you to go with a clean install. Also you can dual boot with Win98.
